Dewey the Master Earthdog

Hi Bloggies,

Do you remember when my Mom won all those ribbons......

'n the titles ta go with 'em by goin' inta a silly little tunnel

ta try ta finds some rats in cages at the end of it ?

Do ya remember that....do ya  ????

Silly ribbons.....silly titles.....silly job....

Now I....Dewey Dewster....am a real earthdog cause I don't need ta go inta a tunnel ta capture a

vermin......

I can capture a vermin by patrollin' our yard and sniffin' round.....

Yep, when I get out there, I know if somethin' has been there that doesn't belong.....

Like the other day....I went out and smelled somethin' that wasn't quite right.....

Somethin' moved in MY YARD that didn't belong there.......

'N I had ta teach 'em a lesson......

I guess ya know what it was....don't ya?

Yep....it was a RAT !!!!!

'N somehow or other..... he ended up in my mouth....see 'em in there ????

I was pretty proud of that RAT....I tell ya......

I caught it fair 'n square......

I am the KING of the YARD cause I caught the VERMIN in our yard........

My Mom 'n Toby wanted ta take my Rat away but I wouldn't let 'em.......cause he was MINE !!!!!

*************

'N if that rat wasn't bad enough.....

I discovered another VERMIN in our yard.....

but I could never get 'em. I knew he was there though....

'n so did Gram 'n Pap too cause when they went ta pick their one and only cantalope outta the garden....

they found out that it was gone.....not a trace of it was left either....

So Pap put out the trap ta see what he could catch.....

He caught a raccoon........see 'em in there ?????

Why he ate Gram's prize cantalope....he did...the little piggie.....

Silly Raccoon....

He needed ta go fer a long ride ta find a new home cause we didn't want 'em here..........

We got ta check 'em out before he left so we would remember what a raccoon smelled like....

just in case some of his relatives stopped by later on.......

So as ya can see there was a lot of excitement aound our house lately......

But as usual, I, Dewey Dewster......saved the day......

Yep.......there's nothin' quite as special as havin' Dewey Dewster around.......

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on all the vermin I have had ta take care of lately....it's a tough job but someone has ta do it..........

Osama bin Laden, hunted as the mastermind behind the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil, has been killed, President Obama announced tonight.

The president called the killing of bin Laden the "most significant achievement to date" in the effort to defeat al Qaeda.

"Justice has been done," Obama said.

Bin Laden was located at a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, which was monitored and when the time was determined to be right, the president said, he authorized a "targeted operation."

"A small team of Americans carried out the operation," Obama said. "After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body."

DNA testing confirmed that it was bin Laden, sources told ABC News.

Hail ta the Champion.....my friends......

Hi ya Bloggies,

Yep...I say Hail ta the champion.....my friends...........

She'll chase those rats right to the end.........

Now who would the champion be....ya might ask me.......

Well, as usual it's my Mom....

Last Saturday August 20, 2011, my Mom passed her 3rd and last qualifying senior earthdog meet at the Wester Pa Earthdog Club in Donegal, Pa.

Ya have ta pass the Senior Earthdog test 3 times ta get yer Senior Earthdog  title and so this was the one that really was important.
There's the earthdog judge with my Gram 'n my Mom after she won the 2 ribbons.

One fer passin' the test
and the second one fer gettin' 'er Senior Earthdog title.

See there's those 2 ribbons Mom won last Saturday.........

She's always showin' off.......

Not funny Mom.....not funny at all.....

Now there's all the ribbons that my Mom won........

2 fer passin' Junior Earthdog Tests....

'N one fer her Junior Earthdog Title........

3 fer passin' 3 Senior Earthdog tests....

'N one fer gettin' 'er Senior Earthdog Title....

Here she is showin' off with 'all 'er ribbons......

Fer some reason, she sure doesn't look happy....

But then that flash beastie drive her nuts so she won't look at it.........

That's what the entrance ta the Senior Earthdog tunnel looks like....

It's 30 feet long with two 90 degree turns in it, a false den and a false exit or entrance

which ya better not go in cause ya get failed.

It's only 9 inches high and wide.

My Mom goes right in cause she knows the rats are in there 'n she wants ta get 'em....

Too bad she never gets ta get 'em cause they are safe in a little cage at the end of the tunnel.

But she sure has fun tryin'.....

*********************

Now ya may be wonderin' why I....Dewey Dewster do not have any earthdog ribbons......

I'm still tryin' ta figure that one out myself.....

Cause I'm a master hunter.....fer sure.....

Just watch what I can do.......

'N here's me....the Vermin Hunter too........

Ya can see that I know what I'm doin'.....why I'm chasin' a Vermin....

I know there's vermin in that wood pile 'n I want 'em.

So Gram promised me that next year, I get ta try ta get my Junior Earthdog title ........

It's along story why I didn't get ta try this year 'n last too......

I'll explain later.......yes siree.....

So a BIG CONGRATULATIONS TA MY MOM, ASTA MARIE

JUNIOR & SENIOR EARTHDOG !!!!!!!!!

If ya want ta learn about Earthdog, Wikipedia has a good explanation.

********************
To anyone who is in the path of Hurricane Irene....stay safe....stay dry......stay indoors....

We hope that it's all over soon.....

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on my Mom's big day.....'n Gram's promise ta me fer 2012......
so I can be an earthdog too.......

Doctor Dewey ta the Rescue

Hi ya bloggies,

I tell ya that it seems like we never get ta post anymore and that is of course the fault of "Ya know who"....'n that's not me, Dewey Dewster. I'll give ya a hint....she's old 'n crabby... 'n in big trouble fer not helpin' us update our blog.......ya can supply the name.....hint over.

Well, nothin' much happens around here but lately we did have a spot of excitement.......quite a bit of excitement....'n all because of Toby.

Toby is a "Noodle Brain"........'n I bet ya all know what that is, cause that term has been around the block 'n back again.

We were up ta the cottage....'n Pap was cuttin' up a small tree that he cut down fer firewood.

Now Toby likes ta push around big stones with his nose....'n yep it tears it up pretty bad when he does that......'n he likes ta push around logs too.

So this time when he was pushin' around the log, he musta got his nose caught up in the bark....which I am sure ya all know can be pretty rough.

Well, Pap stopped ta look at 'em cause he was runnin' around chasin' us with blood runnin' outta his face like nothin' happened. Pap looked at him real close 'n he had ripped a big chunk outta his nose and it was bleedin' like wildfire.

It was off ta the vet ta have it looked at. Now ya may remember a few years ago when me 'n Toby tangled with a porcupine who stabbed us nearly ta death. That happened on a holiday weekend night  'n Gram 'n Pap had ta rush us ta a vet far away cause the one in Titusville was off.

Fortunately this time it was early enough that Gram could get Toby in before the vet closed....'n she was thankful fer that. Toby had ta go inta surgery 'n get his nose sewed up and when he came out, he looked like this.

Pretty nasty lookin' ain't it? Why I figure that what little brains Toby has were seepin' out that hole in his nose......yes siree....'n if that happened, we were all in fer trouble......pure trouble.

Now that vet doctor said that Toby had ta wear this horrible contraption fer 10 ta 14 days so he didn't knock out those nose stitches.

Did ya ever see anythin' so ridiculous as this, I ask ya.

Why poor Toby had trouble keepin' his head up with that contraption on.

It's called an Elizard Collar or somethin'......sheer torture fer sure.....

'N he looked pitiful.... I tell ya, pitiful.

There wasn't any way he could keep that on fer 2 weeks....

no way at all.

Gram 'n Pap watched 'em....then took it off....

'n he didn't bother his nose at all so they left it off.

I bet that nose was sore....yes siree.......fer sure........

Anyway, Toby survived another disaster....
'er a near disaster......
but I thought that I'd check 'em out once we got back home again.
So I got out my spectacles
....'n my stethoscope....
'n got Toby ta lie  down.....

Nearly had ta drug the little scatter brain, I did....

ta get 'em ta hold still.

Didn't he know this was important ?

I was listenin' fer a heartbeat but I tell ya I only heard a clock tickin'...

clank, clank, clank......

a sick clock at that.....

I checked my medical manuals ta see if I could pinpoint his problems......

ya always want ta research somethin' thoroughly.....

before ya do somethin' ya might regret later.

I think I figured out just what Toby needs.......

It just may be outta my area of expertise......

After readin' many chapters.......

I discovered......

Toby needs.......

A brain transplant.......

No doubt becuz his brain has left the buildin'.......

I actually heard the sound of the ocean when I checked his head......

Neon sign sayin' "VACANCY"

So here I sit tryin' ta figure out if I should tell Gram 'n Pap what kind of operation Toby needs......

'Er if I should just keep that information........

Right ta myself......

What do ya think?

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on a near fatal mishap that Toby had....OK.....maybe I exaggerated a bit there but ya get the idea. Doctor Dewey ta the rescue again. See ya all in surgery !

Paradise Lost

Hi ya bloggies,

I tell ya that our time in Florida was way too short....

yep....

We coulda stayed a lot longer, but we had ta come back home again...

Gram hasn't told me why we came home ye,t but I am sure that she will.

I tell ya that we did lots of stuff when we were in Florida and there was never a dull day.

All that activity sure made me tired
and
I certainly enjoyed my favorite spot on the sofa......

I love pillows....do ya?

They sure keep ya comfy and I love ta be comfy......

Now there are many dangerous species of vermin running around Florida

Gram went ta see a whole group of especially ferocious vermin......

The kind sane people stay away from.....

See if ya agree

These guys were frightenin' I tell ya.....frightenin'........

Of course ya can also see pretty vermin that strut around lookin' flamboyant like this guy...

Just look what he does ta impress a lady.......

Can ya believe it????

All that energy just fer a lady......

Sheesh......I need ta have a talk with that guy.....

We're sure gonna miss playin' ball in Lake June.....

Ya know ya get hot playin' ball but.....

But the Lake water cools ya right off........

We're sure gonna miss it.......

So we made the long drive back home again.......

But we always get ta stop at motels along the way.

They make the beds especially comfy fer us doggies......

When we got back home I discovered that some new dogs had moved inta the neighborhood......

Can ya imagine ?........

Without askin' me ?

I have ta whip 'em in shape so they know who is boss.......

Like.....ME, of course.....
All this responsibility is wearin' me out again....

Ya can see that I found another comfy spot ta rest.....

A place ta unwind......

And a soft pillow ta help me plan another day.....

*******************

Ta all of our friends who are in the path of the tornadoes and floods that have plagued the U.S.

Please stay safe........Take shelter.........We cry with ya.....

And if ya have family or friends affected by this terrible weather.....

We will pray for them all.....

This is Dewey Dewster here reportin' on our last days in Florida, the vermin that live there, our trip home and
my new job in our neighborhood..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Does absence make the heart grow fonder?

Hi ya Bloggies,

I tell ya we have been so busy here this winter that we just have not been able ta keep up with tellin' ya what all we have been doin'. I really want ta change that but I keep gettin' bogged down by work and havin' fun.

So do ya miss us when ya don't hear from us?????
Do Ya ?
Do ya ?
Do ya?

Does our absence make yer hearts grow fonder fer more 'n more?
See this is MY GOLF CART.........
MY GOLF CART.......
everytime we go out if I see it,
I have ta get on it.
I just LOVE THIS GOLF CART !!!!
I wanna drive it but my hairy little feet are unable to reach the pedal.....
but can't ya just imagine how the ladies would take notice
if I was the one drivin' MY GOLF CART?
I always have ta check around ta make sure no one is hangin' off MY GOLF CART
before we go fer a ride.
The other night we went fer our usual walk but when we got outside,
MY GOLF CART was sittin' in the front yard
'n I wanted ta go fer a ride.
So after we came back from our walk,
Gram told Pap that we needed ta go fer a golf cart ride
and off we went down the street.
My Mom loves the golf cart too but not as much as I do cause it's mine !

Later on that night after my Mom crabs a bit, we get a special treat.
The special treat comes after we get our usual evening cookies.
Last night we got some pretty nice chewies
and we were all busy chewin' 'em up.
 Me with my chewey.....
 My Mom with her chewey.....
'N Toby is busy with his chewey......

So Bloggies....do ya miss us ????

Or are ya happy when we are gone????

Either way, we miss ya and love ya all........

So have a great day and may the sun shine on yer nose !!!!

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on MY GOLF CART, day and night and our evening chewey..............

In case ya were wonderin'............

Hi Bloggies,

Gee, I tell ya there is just no ideal way ta deal with
OLD PEOPLE........

'N by OLD PEOPLE, I mean Gram.....
Yep, she has not let me use the computer fer months
'n that meant that I had no way ta update my blog.

Yep...Gram 'n Pap have kept me pretty busy workin' 'round here....
.'n I mean work....

I ask ya....do I look even a little bit happy here?
I wanna tell ya I thought this was ta be a relaxin' visit ta the Sunshine State.

Now that was not ta be because Gram had somethin' else in mind....
 'n that was paintin'.
As ya can see I was chosen ta paint the whole place......
a big job fer a little guy like me.
All by my little terrier self......

My paws are worn down ta the bone.....
'n I'm lookin' fer a long rest so I can get my energy back again.

Gram and Pap promised us that if we helped ta create a transformation in this place,
we would get a special treat.
So we did.

We live in a mobile home here and this is what the house looked like when we bought it last year.

'N after workin' fer months 'n months....
This is what the place looks like now....
Still not finished but lookin' a bit spiffier....
Thanks ta yers truly.....
Dewey Dewster.....
canine painter.....

So since we got the place in order.........
We wanted our special treat.........
We all hopped on the golf cart and waited........

We wanted ta go ta the pavilion 'n play ball and go inta the water too.......
'n we weren't gettin' off the golf cart until we were there......

Now I tell ya that it is pretty hot around here
And we started our ball playin' in the yard at the pavilion.....
But that was really tirin'.......

So we got inta the water and played there....
Much better, I tell ya.....
Cool, clean water......
And a heavenly clean BALL too !!!!!

But I tell ya that after ya have fun, there's always a down-side ta the day.......
We were now pretty smelly.....
And covered with sand.....
So we needed a BATH.........

I tell ya that the Peepers always can manage ta ruin a perfectly fine day........
We were surely happy bein' full of sand and smelly too......
Ya can never make Gram 'n Pap happy unless yer clean too ........

Now just in case we never get ta use the computer again until we get back home again,
We want ta leave ya with somethin' that will make ya smile.
Babies are universally darlin' creatures
And here is a picture of a baby sandhill crane followin' his mamma around the yard.
Ain't he cute?

Well, I have a lot more ta tell ya but Gram wants ta use the computer
So I'm gettin' the EVIL EYE ta get off it right now.....

Like I actually got ta use it the whole time we were here.....fer sure....
OK Gram, I'm signin' off.....

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' that we're all still alive and reasonably happy......
Bein' smelly and sandy are wonderful......
Baths will always stink.......

On the move....and Dewey Immortalized

Hi ya Bloggies,

I tell ya we never seem to get ta talk about what we are doin' anymore until it's almost too late ta tell ya.
Right after Christmas, we left "da burg" and headed south fer the winter. We drove all night long and then all the next day and only stopped fer the night once we reached Georgia. There was a terrible snow storm and we wanted ta beat it. We didn't beat it but we missed the worst of it by leavin' early.

That, I tell ya Bloggies......is what we saw in the Carolinas on the way down ta Florida.
'N the Carolinas are not used ta gettin' snow so we saw a lot of accidents on the trip down.

But now we're lookin' at this beautiful scenery at Lake June in Winter in Lake Placid, Florida.
'N we are sure glad ta be here too.
We've had a few cold nights but fer the most part the weather has been beautiful here.
Yep, I tell ya....it's paradise....fer sure.......

Ain't it just spectacular?
Water....'n ramps ta walk out on....
                                                                      'n more water....
                                                                          'n trees too.
Then there's these sandhill cranes that are walkin' around in our neighborhood.
Imagine that ! I mean who invited 'em anyway?
They don't have a house here.
So we had ta bark at 'em..........
                                                 I mean we're the bosses 'round here......right ?
                                                                   Ya agree, don't ya?

Then I tell ya that we really got upset cause Gram 'n Pap found this turtle walkin' on the road
and they didn't want 'em ta get hit by a car so they brought 'em back ta our house.

Put 'em right in our exercise pen....I tell ya......OUR PEN!
There he was just lordin' up the place like he owned it
'n it is OUR PEN !

So I had ta watch 'em outta the window in our Florida room....
ta make sure he wasn't takin' anythin' that didn't belong ta him.......

I mean that was a HARD JOB....... watchin' that turtle ta make sure he was bein good.......
a really HARD JOB!
But then someone had ta do it...so it was ME!

So he spent the night in our exercise pen cause Gram 'n Pap went ta a sports bar ta watch the Steelers play football.
We found out that he was called a gopher turtle....cause they dig tunnels like a gopher.
So what did the little nurd do that night?

He dug himself  inta the ground so we couldn't see 'em anymore
'n so we would think he had moved on.

But I was smarter than that....cause I knew he was still there.
Yep, Gram 'n Pap told us that they took 'em ta the nature preserve across the lake
but I think he's dug 'imself a BIG DEEP TUNNEL
and he's hidin' in our exercise pen.
So everyday I check the perimeter just ta make sure.
 I'll sniff 'em out....yer siree.......
He can't fool me !

 ***********************************************************

Now fer a special topic that is very dear ta my heart.........
Dewey Dewster has been immortalized
 in PEN AND INK.

I tell ya, Bloggies, No one and I mean no one will ever ferget the Dewster.....not ever....

 cause Shafali has captured me.....
in tip-top form....
at my most handsome...
just bein' THE DEWSTER !

Now if ya don't think that is a picture of the most handsome dog ya ever did see....
then ya need ta have yer eyes checked.
Just look at that face, will ya ?
Sheer perfection at it's finest !
Why, once Hollywood sees this picture...they are gonna be callin' me non-stop
I'm gonna be famous....yes siree....
The next dog ta be picked fer the Marley and Me sequel.

And if ya want ta see other great stuff that Shafali has done.....drawin' stuff that is...... ya can visit 'er blog
'N I'm sure that this beautiful face of mine is gonna make her famous too...
Shafali, I mean...
Fer sure...
But not as famous as I'll be.....

So, there ya have it bloggies........A picture of what we have been doin' lately....but only a little one mind ya cause we just couldn't tell ya everythin'.....that would take ferever.....

As fer me....I have my best vantage point back again at our fenced yard by our pavilion.
'N I'm gonna watch out ta make sure no VERMIN invade our little paradise.

It's a tough job....but someone has ta do it !

This is Dewey Dewster (on the way ta becomin' famous) reportin' on our trip south and how I got ta be immortal.....
If ya see my head growin' bigger....yer sure ta know why.......
