Where Are We Headed ????

Ya always think yer gonna have a good day when ya wake up in the morning. Ya always think yer gonna have a good meal 'n lots of playtime 'n unconditional love and affection. Ya think of comfort and warmth when it's cold in the winter and cool water and cool air when it's hot in the summer.

Ya think yer world is the only one around and ya don't venture too far outta yer comfort zone. Yer life is great and yer not worried about where yer next doggie biscuit is comin' from or yer next bowl of ice cream.... Then the black clouds roll in like they did around here again tonight. We had another storm where the thunder roared and the lightening streaked across the sky. And the rains fell...... The rains didn't bother us at all, cause it cooled things off a bit and the tomato plants got some free water and so did the pepper plants and Gram's flowers.

But the black clouds are causin' a lot of trouble in the stock market. The Dow dropped more than 358 points today and the price of a barrel of oil closed a fraction under $140 for the first time ever. The thunder and lightening from that storm will be felt around the world....

These black clouds are causin' people all around the world ta wonder if they can buy food tomorrow with the risin' prices. People are losin' their homes left 'n right and some of 'em can't afford ta buy gasoline fer their cars ta get ta work. If things keep goin' on like this, many will not be able to heat their homes this winter. Ya can bet that crime is gonna rise like the Phoenix from the ashes as people try ta get the basic necessities ta survive...... Do ya think that the do-nothings in Congress in Washington can get off their duffs long enough ta stick their heads out the door ta see whats what? They can't seem ta see the clouds at all. All they seem ta see is the sun shine.

Now ya might be wonderin' how Dewey Dewster knows about the workings of the world...'n the sufferin' goin' on...'n the fact that there is a U.S. Congress in Washington at all.....

Hey, ya might be wonderin' how Dewey Dewster knows that there even is a Washington, D.C. in this country. Well, Dewey Dewster has been talkin' 'n listenin' ta his Gram since he was born and if he didn't pick up somethin' after all that listenin', he would be pretty stupid indeed.

If the U.S. Congress continues ta debate and fight about who's at fault here, those black clouds are never gonna go away........

Ya all better take shelter from the rain.......

We Got it !!!! We got it !!!! The Ratitude !!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Dewey usually does the posts but he is resting up after a very tiring weekend and I am at the keyboard for a change.......

I guess my little boy child, Dewey, told you that we were really hoping for our own EarthDog tunnel. And what did we get? Nothing, but a new retaining wall. I was really bummed out over it all. I mean we were thinking we could practice our earthdog skills more often and even more important than that, “Get Those Rats!”

Sunday morning I was really down…I didn’t even want to get out of bed….I could hardly lift my head off the pillow….and when my Mom called me, I just rolled my eyes and looked sad and kept resting.
( if you click on any of the pictures, you can see a larger version)
Everyone got up for breakfast but me…..oh; I did come downstairs…but not all the way. I lay on the steps and sulked some more. I mean, I felt really bad…like my whole world just fell apart….oh woe is me….woe is me…..I know Dewey used that a while back but if it works well why can’t I use it again?
Now Mom and Dad never said we were going anywhere special but they got the car ready and put us all in. I love to go for a car ride no matter where we are going so I was excited just for that.

But we ended up at the WPA EarthDog Club’s practice field, Woodside, in Donegal, Pa again…….and I got excited. Now if you remember the last time, my little boy child left me standing in the dust because he went in the Junior EarthDog tunnel (at least halfway) and I wouldn’t go in at all. Oh, I wanted the rats OK but I think it was all the mud and the thought that Mom would be mad if I got dirty that kept me out.

Well, I was watching all the other dogs go in and I saw those rats in the cage again and I knew I had to try and try I did.

This is what earthdogs looks like after they get all muddy in the tunnel. And there was a bunch of mud there again this time. We both went in the Junior EarthDog tunnel this time all the way. I mean those rats were toast because we worked them and worked them good.

Here's me...doesn't that mud just look delicious?

And my little boy child Dewey...doesn't he look happy?

Mom and Dad didn’t get any other pictures there because they were busy working with us in the tunnels and the mud was everywhere. We had to ride home in the car all muddy and when we got home, Mom and Dad got out the pool to help us get some of the mud off.

I kind of liked the feel of that mud on my face and legs, but the pool is a lot of fun.

I just love the water and just love playing ball and that’s what we did. Here’s some tandem ball playing…just me and Dewey.
But of course, Dewey always has to be a ball hog and there he is in the pool showing off.

All in all it was a great day. We got some Ratitude, a dip in the pool and we played some ball. What more can you ask for? Life is good!!!!! And even though we didn't get our own tunnel, we got to practice earthdog anyway. And we are going back again next month and in August to practice again. The test is in August too and if we keep performing well, we will take the test. We are really getting excited thinking that we may actually be real earthdogs.

So, how was your day?

Searching For Ratitude

Greetings from the "Burgh".....

Ya know, there's somethin' about angry skies that make ya wanta look up 'n watch the big black clouds move over the tree tops. Mother Nature can be friendly and she can be powerful but some of the sights that she sends can be downright beautiful.

Remember those workers from the other day? Well, they were back doin' their work when the big black clouds rolled in. It didn't stop 'em though, cause those clouds just kept right on rollin' by.

See that metal monster at the top of the driveway? He was still guardin' the way in....we wanted ta go pee on 'em but Gram wouldn't let us. Looks like they're puttin' new blocks in the spot where the old wall was.
Yep, that 's what it looks like...I bet that will make a great Earthdog tunnel when it has a top on it....no rat will ever escape our jaws through those blocks..........what do ya think?

Well, we are paws-a-tively disappointed here. Did we get a new Earthdog tunnel? Naw, we didn't.....Gram 'n Pap got a new retainin' wall...we held out hope fer the tunnel until they put a bunch of gravel behind it..... then added dirt on top of that. There was no way that we could chase anythin' through a solid pile of that stuff.
Then Gram put some of her plants back in the dirt...'n some of that black mulch on top that got Koobie inta a peck of trouble not long ago. And we knew we were doomed ta never havin' our own Earthdog tunnel.Me 'n Mom decided ta have a little talk about what we were goin' ta do now.....we were serious....
Mom thought about us trying ta dig our own tunnel...after all we're terriers 'n we love ta dig......
Toby's just a clown...he's always happy...'n he's always smilin'.......so he isn't worried about that tunnel......think he'll find out about bein' a terrier before it's too late?
We'll, we're gonna put on our thinkin' caps and decide what we should do ta get that tunnel. So as we search for alternatives....we bid you all farewell....'n wish that everyone has a GREAT WEEKEND......

Oh 'n on the last post we weren't thinkin' straight, we would like ta pass the Daily Blogger award on ta our Kousin Asta in New York cause she's always bloggin' from all over the world.

A Birds Eye View

Wow, exciting things are just happening all over the place lately. It seems like at least the rains have stopped in the Midwest, but sadly the flooding hasn't. Here's hopin' that all our pals along the way are not in the path of the flood waters.

But, in Blogland, I have been given a great honor by two of my newest friends, Abby in New York and Oorvi, in New Delhi. They have both passed on the "Daily Blogger Award" ta me, Dewey Dewster, little boy child of Asta Marie, WFT. Why, I'm paws-a-tively flattered at such an honor from two such distinguished bloggers. Thank you both and I hope that I can live up to my elevated stature in the blog world.

Now that my thinkin' cap has been fully charged, I thought ya might be a bit interested in what's been happening over at our house in the "Burgh" this week............

Early yesterday morning, we heard a real commotion outside our house....lotsa noise with big machinery stuff movin' on inta our driveway....the nerve of it all.

So we ran ta the front door ta have a look-see at what all the commotion was about.

Wow, a monster with a big metal mouth had positioned himself at the top of our driveway and was guardin' it with steely determination.....

He took a big bite outta the place where our driveway retainin' wall useta be...'n all that was left was a big hole....no more wall...'n lottsa dirt everywhere....

But among all the dirt 'n grime 'n tools, Gram's flowers are bloomin' right pretty...cause it's that time of year...pretty soon officially the first day of summer 'round here...don't the day lillies just look beautiful with their yellow faces searchin' fer the sun?

'N the oriental lillies are bustin' out all over too...watch out fer that rake, lillies.....

Gram has so many flowers bloomin' right now that every day there's somethin' new ta look at 'n sniff...if yer not inta butt sniffin' like we are.....

Now the clematis vine that is growin' up the front lamp post is especially pretty this year...'n the dreaded clematis wilt hasn't touched even one leaf yet....paws crossed fer the rest of the season....

The foxglove's are startin' ta open up their little bells...ya would think that we'd see a hummer hangin' around here beak dippin' in the flowers, but we only see those at the cottage.

Now that steel monster is back taday....'n the guys that brought 'em are too. We shall have ta see what they are doin' with that big hole they dug yesterday. So stop back again, 'n after we find out what they're puttin' in the hole (do ya think they're makin' us an Earthdog tunnel?), we''ll be sure ta tell ya......the suspense is killin'' us......

A little bit of Nothin'....'n a Sample of Somethin'

Hi out there in Blogland....

Ya know sometimes ya take life fer granted....ya see the sky is a beautiful shade of blue... 'n ya look at it and sigh and move on. Ya see a fluffy white cloud in the sky 'n ya think it looks like a soft pillow... 'n ya keep walkin'....'n ya see a river flowin' with houses on the shore...'n houses perched on the edge of a hill...'n green trees 'n sunshine.. 'n ya think...oh boy...what a great day this is.

Pittsburgh is really a pretty city....'n sometimes we just don't appreciate what we're seein' when we drive around. 'N Gram is always angry when she drives through the city tryin' ta get from here ta there.. 'n doesn't have her camera with her. Last time she went over to brother Scott's place, she remembered it 'n snapped three pictures of the Mon River from the movin' car....

See the houses at the river banks 'n the houses perched on the hills above the river......blue skies with fluffy white clouds floatin' like soft pillows on their way ta heaven....
The Mon River has pretty dirty lookin' water but it's still beautiful ta look at 'cause it's here... 'n it's ours...'n it's part of Pittsburgh.... 'n all that we love about it......'n most of all it's a sample of the stuff Mother Nature creates fer all of us ta enjoy.....
Sunday June 15, 2008

Taday was Father's Day....'n what a grand Day it was too....it started out pretty humid 'n kinda dreary...but then the sun came out 'n the humidity eased a bit...'n the day was Grand......

Toby started the morning out on his perch on the back of the sofa in the familyroom....roachin' out....relaxed lookin' isn't he???? We had a picnic cookout fer lunch at our house. Brother Scott....'n Heather....smelly baby Parker.... 'n Brother Brian.....'n Aunt Carol...'n Great Grandma Dorothy...'n of course Gram 'n Pap were here.....along with us, of course.....

Do ya remember the baby hooman Parker? Well, he's gettin' ta be pretty big now...close ta 4 months old...'n he does more now that he is gettin' over being a big baby.....I mean a little baby....

Here he is with Great Gram Dorothy....I bet ya can tell which one is the Great Gram...'n which one is the baby Parker...can't ya? He's gettin' his first tooth ( inagine that...him bein' 4 months old 'n all....we had our teeth long before that...must be why babies are defective in growin' up)

We really had a nice visit with everyone...'n the day turned out ta be really nice too...we had another bowl of ice cream after everyone was gone.....'n Gram took us fer a nice long walk too....

Yeah, life is good, I tell ya...tomorrow I'm gonna look at the clouds...'n check out the color of the sky...'n see if the river is runnin' straight fer a change...'n make sure those houses on the hill didn't fall off 'n land in the river.........Pittsburgh, Pa.........a nice place ta live....

Oh yeah....ya need ta say a few more prayers with us now....can ya? Cause the Midwest is still gettin' bad weather...'n floodin'...'n maybe the prayers we've been sayin' are defective or somepin'...so say 'em harder...'n say 'em louder...they need our HELP......

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream

Fer Ice Cream !!!!!!!
Greetings Ta All.....

Well, we've been visitin' lots of Blogs lately...'n when we visit we see lots of our Blog Friends bein' taken out fer Ice Cream. It looked so cool 'n refreshin', I tell ya....'n nice of the Peepers ta take everyone out ta have some goodies.....
Can ya believe that we have never been taken out fer Ice Cream? NEVER, NEVER, NEVER....

Well, truth be told Toby gets car sick still 'n he woulda just threw it all up after he ate it in the car on the way home. But Geez...is that a good reason?????
So everytime we visited a Blog where someone got taken out fer Ice Cream....we made sure Gram 'n Pap read all about it........we tried ta make 'em feel real bad that we were gettin' the short end of the stick in the "Treatin' Department".
So know what???? When Gram 'n Pap came home from the grocery store taday....they brought a carton of ice cream fer all of us ta have....right here....on our deck.....in our own bowls....'n not just the dregs from their bowl either..... Gee...it took 'em long enough ta treat us.........
Here's the Ice Cream carton before it even got opened.....we get the vanilla stuff all ta ourselves.....

Now look at the bowls with ice cream in it just fer us....these are our own eatin' dishes....'n we know who gets which one too.....

Bowls were lined up on the deck fer us ta see.....our mouths were waterin'...just thinkin' about gettin inta that ice cream......

Then we finally got ta eat it.......aaaaawwww, the cool, sweet, delicious taste of Ice Cream......ya gotta love the flavor, texture, 'n coolness of it fer sure.....

Mom first, then me....

Then Toby....

Wow, it was hot again here today...'n we sure are lucky ta get such a treat. But there are doggies 'n dog parents out in the mid-west who are havin' a bad time of it with tons of rain, 'n tornadoes, 'n flooding....so we're gonna say a little prayer tonight that everyone will be OK, that they are safe in their homes and that the rains and bad weather will end soon. Can ya say a prayer fer 'em too? Thanks guys....

Beating the Heat

Hey guys,

It has been super hot around here fer several days now. Has it been hot where ya are? We don't like the heat too much...it makes yer piggies hot.....'n it makes ya pant....'n it makes ya wanna rest a whole lot more.

What do ya when it gets too warm outside fer ya ta play?

We like ta cool off. I think ya already saw our swimming pool. Well now Pap set up a sprinkler fer us ta really get cooled off under. Do ya have one of those? Well, check it out.

If ya notice me 'n Toby are havin' a blast in that water. Well...more me than Toby, truth be told. I was just swallowin' a ton of that water....'n ya know what that means, don't ya? Whatever goes in, has gotta come out. Well, I tell ya, I peed up a storm after I swallowed all that water.

Did ya see my Mom drop her ball by the sprinkler? Know why she did that? If the ball gets full of doggie saliva, Gram 'n Pap won't throw it anymore. So Mom is smart enough ta rinse it off so that they will throw it fer her again.

Gee, I hope everyone that was hot the last few days was able ta stay cool or at least get cool fer a bit. We don't want no doggie, kittie or hamster heat stroke problems.

It's scheduled ta rain here tomorrow. Can ya believe we don't like ta get wet when it rains but we sure love the sprinkler. We don't like baths either. That's 'cause there's "GOOD WATER" 'n "BAD WATER". But we're sure ya already know all about that.

So stay cool 'n stay clean, so ya don't have ta get a BATH.

Dewey Dewster here.......reportin' on sprinklers, 'n stayin' cool.......
