Dewey Survived the Big Bad Shot

I personally want to thank everyone for all of the concern shown over Dewey’s recent illness. He was one sick little boy. He had an allergic reaction to the rabies vaccine…by the evening after the shot he was feverish, shaking, lethargic and just plain out of it.

My poor little Dew Baby…..as a Mother, I was extremely worried. And I was pretty much helpless…I know that I should have called Nurse Lacie, but I got my Mom to take over his care instead. She’s pretty good about taking control of a bad situation.
I surely thought Dewey was ready to take his last breath…he barely could lift his head out of his bed.

He was dreaming of the doggie angels coming for him.

And he saw visions of steak bones, beef cubes, chicken strips and liver dancing in head. I think he was delirious for sure.

Steak bones with steak attached....

beef cubes....Yum, Yum.... Chicken strips, soooooo gooood....

Delicious Liver swimming in his head.....

Toby tried his best to comfort Dewey.

But on Monday, after calling the vet, Mom started giving him Benadryl and he began to improve. He got out of his bed and walked around on his own. He kept his eyes open and smiled for the first time in two days.

He ate his dinner and drank water and today he went for his usual long walk….. I think we have the old Dewey back again. Wow what a relief..........cause we was worried........how about you????

We all went out into the yard. Wow, Look at that Dewey smile....... would ya?
And I am very thankful for that…..I am sure that the reason he is now well again is because all of you out in Blogland were thinking of him fondly and wishing him well.

So we have a true survivor here… Dewey will live for another day….he will continue to write his blog and he will continue to torment me by taking my ball away from me every chance he gets. Why couldn’t my Mom play ball with me when he was too sick to play?

Do you think maybe he needs any more shots??????
Thanks again everyone....Dewey is back.......

Oh, dear, Dewey.

I was worried about you all last night and all day long today. Ms. Alpha recalled reading about bad reactions to those rabies shots and she really feared what was happening to you. You are a real trooper, my man.

Yes, isn't the internet marvelous for spreading info? As soon as we read you had that shot and then were feeling so poorly, we wanted your mom to take you to the vet.

She's a good and wise human and you are a VERY LUCKY pup, Dewey. Cases of Frosty Paws to you for your brave bounce back to health!!!!!!!!

Your sincere friend,
Fenway

PS When I got my rabies shot, my mom just held her breath and worried for a while.

Dewey, we are sure glad you are feeling better! Your peeple must have been scared out of their wits! When we get our shots, the vet always warns our pawrents about reactions, but we never have any. We hope you won't have anymore either!

Aire-hugs,
Poppy & Penny

Glad you're feeling better. You look much more chipper in that last picture. Those shots are supposed to be for our good, but sometimes they pack a punch. Hopefully that will never happen to you again!

Dear Dewey,

I am so glad you survived and are feeling better. It looks like you got excellent care and attention. I love the picture of your Mom running after Toby, he does not look happy to have her on his tail. If I come out to Pittsburgh I will have to look you up. We can go for a walkie.

Whew we are so happy for the great outcome. What is a mother to do when her son is so very sick. :(

Too bad you even have to need a rabies shot.

But, we are glad that Dewey is safe to steal your ball for another day!

Dewi, Thank Dog, I've been wheelie worried bout you. Would you believe it- having a reaction to a shot like that. Bad enough deal that you need a rabies shot. I can still go nip the vet for ya - just bark the word and I'll be over ok?

Wiry wags Eric
