Introduction to Earthdog

Hi everyone.......

Well, after tryin' out Earthdog last fall at the Butler County Doggie Fun Day we have been a bitin' at the bit waitin' ta try it out again and fer real this time. We missed the trainin' session last month cause by the time Gram thought to have a look see about it, the whole session was full. But they have practices every month and so we drove the 58 miles last Sunday to see if we can be Earthdogs someday.

That's Cookie and she was tellin' us all about scentin' out the prey. First, we tried ta find the rats that were in while plastic pipes at the edge of the woods. There were holes in the pipes so they could breath and caps on the ends so we couldn't get to 'em. Drat, drat......get that rat!!!!!!

That's me and Mom checkin' out our new terrier friend, Slider. He's a Welsh terrier and we were happy ta meet him. He was just waitin' ta get those rats cause one bit him on the nose last time he was here and he was madder than a hornet.

That's a bunch of the members waitin' ta get to the Junior Earthdog tunnels fer their turn at gettin' the rats.
Now that is the entry to the Junior Earthdog Tunnel....looks a mite intimidatin', doesn't it?

And that's what the tunnels look like from above. They are 30 feet long with 2 ninety degree turns before ya can get ta those rats.
This little guy didn't want ta go thru the whole tunnel so Linda is puttin' him in half-way through.
That's what happened ta me. But ya know what? I'll learn....yes siree, I will....now my Mom may be a different story....cause she wouldn't go in at all......ha, ha, ha, ha....me, Dewey Dewster, showin' up my Mom....takin' on Earthdog.....

And that's the crate of a dog with a lot of Earthdog ribbons....we are goin' ta try and get some of those fer ourselves.....yes we will. And in case yer wonderin' those are the 2 rats that were at the end of the tunnel.....problem is they are in the cage and ya can't get 'em even if ya get to 'em....no fair, I say....how about you?

We're goin' back next month fer the next practice.....then we'll see if my Mom can get into that tunnel. She sure wants ta get the rats...so we shall see.

Where was Asta before she was attackin' that gutter toy on the deck??? She was one dirty foxy wire. Mumsie always sez foxy wires get dirtier than other dogs and when they get a bathie they look wetter...hmmm!!!

Mumsie's rolling on the floor....I need to go and and scrape her off and resit her up....I didn't think there was anything funny in those videos...

Hey you guys, that Earthdog practice session, that isn't the site of the Western PA Earthdog club tests in August is it?? I'm a big Earthdog myself, only the
4th Bedlington ever to get a Master Earthdog title! My Mom's been doing Earthdog with us for years, and we love it! We haven't been up to PA in a couple of years, we might just have to come up and do it again soon. Gas and all, it's getting expensive!
Have fun!

Love,
Rudy

Hello!
You all are soooo cute!
That Junior earthdog sure looks fun - I recently posted about catching a real live rat...and my kitty sister posted about catching a mouse! Ever since I saw Agatha (of Agatha & Archie) do JE I have wanted to try it myself...unfortunately Chihueagles are not allowed so I guess I will have to stick to city rats instead...sigh.

Anyway, the reason that I am also writing is that I believe that I had the honor of picking Mr. Dewster in the International goodie exchange! Are there any dietary restrictions/allergies that I need to know about? Also, I guess I need a snail mail addy to send this goodie package = )
Pls let me know as soon as you are able.
woof!
your goodie x-change pal,

Boy, that looks like a lot of fun!! You get to run through a tunnel, get dirty, and chase a rat! What could be better? Do you think that they will ever have those over here in Easten Pennsylvania?

Good luck, Dewey!! Let's bring home a ribbon!!

Let's go, Dewey!

I have some exciting news to report to all you TERRIERS!!!

The rat problem in Washington, DC has hit the news and it seems the humans haven't been able to come up with a solution. It's been rumored that people with terriers are bringing 'em down to Lafayette Park (which is right across from the White House!!!) so their doggies can get back to nature and work the EARTH! Pretty cool, huh?

I am sure you would receive a warm welcome in the Nation's Capitol. Perhaps I can get you a key to the city!

Earthdog sounds like it was a fun time. I always wondered if the rats were running free. I'm glad to know they are caged.

Sounds like fun! I saw a dead rat yesterday just laying in the pavement. It was kinda gross so J1 didn't let me get too close. J x

Dewey you are one fine foxy to go down that long bendy tunnel. you are indeedy a real action hero. I got a bit claustrophobic just looking at it (Mom wrote that not bit not me Eric) No wonder Asta didn't want to go in there.

I'm going to email you the article I sent to Agatha bout where terriers are being used on farms in UK to catch and KILL rats!! See you over this side of the big pee real soon Dewey!! He, he!!
