My Cousin Goliath

Hi Guys,

My doggie Gram, Sporty, lives on a dairy farm along with my doggie Uncles, Shawn C. and Goober and my doggie Aunt, Jewels (they're my Mom's litter mates, all wire fox terriers). The farm was sold a few years ago, but hooman Great Gram, Judy, and her family still live there in the old farmhouse.

My hooman Uncle Shawn now has a calf that he says he is raisin' for food. The calf lives in a shelter behind the garage and Uncle Shawn has had him since he was born last year. Did ya know that when momma cows have their babies, they don't get ta keep 'em and nurse 'em... 'n cuddle 'em? Someone comes along and takes the babies right away and they are bottle fed until they can eat solid food.

My that's a Big bottle, huh?
The cow Moms go back into the dairy-milking mix after a few days, once the colostrum is out of their milk. And the baby cows go into little huts with their own fenced yards and a hooman person bottle feeds them all their milk. Sounds like a lot of work, huh? It is.

Here is what the baby huts look like....and there is a whole little city of 'em. Cute little buggers, aren't they?

Anyway, back to Uncle Shawn and his calf. Last time we were at the farm, we got ta see Uncle Shawn's calf and his name is Goliath. Now, if yer plannin' on butcherin' yer little boy child fer food later on, do ya give 'em a name? Well, I guess he's not so little fer a boy child, now is he?

Check out the video of Goliath. He's a cutie, isn't he?

That was hooman Gram Judy callin' Goliath so he would come out ta see us.....

Don't think there are a lot of doggies out there who have a cousin that is a calf and one that will be on a dinner table in a few years. Or so Uncle Shawn says.......

Sure hope ya all enjoyed the dairy farm story and that ya all think Goliath is a pretty neat cousin ta have......we sure do.......

Wildlife Report from Titusville

Hello everyone,

We just came home today after our week in the country and I am taking over the keyboard to report on some of the interesting stuff we did while we were there. We just love the country because we get to run around the big yard we have and search for all the good smells that are there. We knew the deer had been there while we were gone because they left behind lots off little piles of doo doo for us to smell. And one morning we got up and looked out the side window to find them over at our salt lick.

Look at the 3 of them just standing there acting like they own the place. I mean, really, if Dewey would have seen them, he would have gone nuts and they would have gone on their way. So Mom didn't let him see them.

And here's a better shot of the 3 deer and the salt lick. I bet now that we are gone again, they are back there every day.
Now my Mom was really busy working on her rock gardens and when she picks up rocks to rearrange them, she sometimes sees snakes under the rocks. Mom sure is afraid of snakes but I always try to help her out by taking care of them so that they don't scare her anymore. I helped her get rid of two of them. How do I do that? When she calls me, "Snake, Asta, snake!!!!!", I come running and grab the snake and shake it and shake it and shake it. The snake usually falls apart and then I get to show it to Dewey and Toby and we all get to roll on it. Do you see the snake by my feet? He was already soundly shaken and pretty well dead and is upside down.
Mom picked him up on the rock so you could get a better idea of what a monster he was before I got to him with my shaking technique. That's his underside you are looking at. It's a good thing I help my Mom cause she would really be afraid to work in her garden.
We got my Mom a little help with her mind and we have lots more to show you but that will be later on in the week.

We hope that all the Moms out there had a really great Mother's Day. I know that I did.....I spent it with my Mom and with my little boy child, Dewey. And I guess I should also mention that Toby, the red-headed step-child of mine was also around for the occasion. It is aways a great day when you spend it with family.

See you all later...

Asta Marie, always a Mother, Reportin'........

I was thinkin' someone like Cary Grant, George Clooney or even Pierce Brosnan or better still, Harrison Ford. Ya know...the leading man type...dark....debonaire....handsome....a swashbuckler....someone fearless and brilliant. Someone a whole lot like meself, man....

So I go to Dogster and take the Dogster Celebrity Quiz and what do I get?????? Well, see fer yerselves......I am mortified....and I'm a lookin for a cave ta hide in 'til I get good 'n gray.....

What celebrity would your pet be? I'm Simon Cowell! Find out at Dogster.com
Wow, your dog is Simon Cowell!

Simon Cowell
Hard to Please
Enterprising, brassy and not afraid to bark what's on his mind, Dewey Dewster is Idol-maker Simon Cowell!
There's no beating around the bush with Dewey Dewster and flattery will get you nowhere. Dewey Dewster calls it like he sees it, and stands firm on all fours behind his decisions. The cat definitely does not have Dewey Dewster's tongue—some of his pals think he's bitter and confrontational, while others find him to be impawsibly hilarious. Dewey Dewster's influence on those around him is remarkable, and he takes advantage of this fact and uses it wisely. Behind his no-nonsense mask, Dewey Dewster is a perceptive sponge, taking in what he sees and hears around him, and then figuring out how to make it look, or sound, better.

Now look at that face...would ya? Do ya see me, Dewey Dewster, Wire Fox Terrier, anywhere in that face? I'm askin' ya ta tell the truth... here........

Now my Mom did much better than me and she is pretty satisified with her celebrity. I think both of them had the same number of husbands....or almost anyway.......

Asta Marie
What celebrity would your pet be? I'm Jennifer Lopez! Find out at Dogster.com
Wow, your dog is Jennifer Lopez!

Jennifer Lopez
Dressed to Kill
Una bomba inteligente autentica, Asta Marie is super-fly girl Jennifer Lopez!
Curvaceous and sassy and always more than willing to pawticipate with a few moves on the dance floor, Asta Marie moves and grooves with the best of them. But that doesn't mean it's all fun and salsa for Asta Marie—discipline and structure are key ingredients that have helped to put Asta Marie on a fur-lined fast track. Family is of utmost importance for Asta Marie , and she takes care of her brothers and sisters with the same dedication that she gives her little 'uns. To see and to be seen are significant parts of Asta Marie's daily activities, and the real-life Cleopetra makes her rounds with confidence and flair, always preferring to hang with the more bold and beautiful members of the pack.

And Toby even got a good guy that he is resemblin' .....Although I've never seen a golf club in his paws...he really does like small balls.........

What celebrity would your pet be? I'm Tiger Woods! Find out at Dogster.com
Wow, your dog is Tiger Woods!

Tiger Woods
Athletic & Poised
Calm and cool on the outside, feisty and determined on the inside, Toby is everyman athlete Tiger Woods!
Toby proved at an early age that he had the skills to pay the bills, running circles around the competition when he was just a wee whippersnapper. Thanks to his tremendous successes, Toby has set aside an entire wing of his luxurious shelter just to house his collection of trophies and ribbons. A high-class pet with exquisite taste, Toby prefers to be seen with long-legged female mates, preferably those bred from Scandinavian lines. Unwilling to rest on his haunches, Toby has no time to hang out at the 19th hole and pet himself on the back—he's got a lot more green grass to frolic across before throwing in the towel.

Now if only we could accumulate a little bit of the wealth that any of these three celebrities have 'n we would be on our way to the Pet Store ta stock up on goodies big time.

So tell me, would ya....do I really look like Simon Cowell??????

It's Dewey Dewster reportin'....we're off to the country for a week...so if ya don't hear from us for awhile, ya know why......

Dewey Survived the Big Bad Shot

I personally want to thank everyone for all of the concern shown over Dewey’s recent illness. He was one sick little boy. He had an allergic reaction to the rabies vaccine…by the evening after the shot he was feverish, shaking, lethargic and just plain out of it.

My poor little Dew Baby…..as a Mother, I was extremely worried. And I was pretty much helpless…I know that I should have called Nurse Lacie, but I got my Mom to take over his care instead. She’s pretty good about taking control of a bad situation.
I surely thought Dewey was ready to take his last breath…he barely could lift his head out of his bed.

He was dreaming of the doggie angels coming for him.

And he saw visions of steak bones, beef cubes, chicken strips and liver dancing in head. I think he was delirious for sure.

Steak bones with steak attached....

beef cubes....Yum, Yum.... Chicken strips, soooooo gooood....

Delicious Liver swimming in his head.....

Toby tried his best to comfort Dewey.

But on Monday, after calling the vet, Mom started giving him Benadryl and he began to improve. He got out of his bed and walked around on his own. He kept his eyes open and smiled for the first time in two days.

He ate his dinner and drank water and today he went for his usual long walk….. I think we have the old Dewey back again. Wow what a relief..........cause we was worried........how about you????

We all went out into the yard. Wow, Look at that Dewey smile....... would ya?
And I am very thankful for that…..I am sure that the reason he is now well again is because all of you out in Blogland were thinking of him fondly and wishing him well.

So we have a true survivor here… Dewey will live for another day….he will continue to write his blog and he will continue to torment me by taking my ball away from me every chance he gets. Why couldn’t my Mom play ball with me when he was too sick to play?

Do you think maybe he needs any more shots??????
Thanks again everyone....Dewey is back.......

Ohhhh, Please Just Let Me Alone.........

Ya would think that everyone would be singin' happy tunes 'cause Spring weather has finally arrived....the sun has been shinin' and the bootiful flowers are bloomin'.
Why, look at this PJM (small leaf Rhododendron) just full of flowers and burstin' with color.

And then the Hyacinths were just finishin' up for this year....Now there's a flower that makes ya want to put yer nose to it....not bad to look at either.

Why, this weekend Toby was in rare form...happy as a lark and high steppin' all over the neighborhood and smilin' like he didn't have a care in the world.

Now, ya can see that my Mom was feelin' bad.....that was 'cause of me, her little boy child.... who did not have a good weekend at all. First me and Mom got stripped of our nice thick coats....we kinda' knew it was a comin' since Fred and George got the business last week.

But I can tell ya...that ain't the worst of it...losin' the hair 'n all.....ya see that sad face??? That's me... and it isn't bad enough havin' pink spots showin' on my back after bein' stripped of most of my hair.....now I have a bald spot 'cause I got micro-chipped this weekend too.

Ya know, they just plug that chipper thingie right into ya like yer a piece of fruit or sumpin'.....and on top 'o that....I got a rabies shot too...Oh, woe is me, woe is me. I wanna tell ya....I have felt a whole lot better than I do right now.....

I never go in my crate unless Gram and Pap go out and here I am just a restin' here cause I just feel so bad. Gram gave me an aspirin ta try and make me feel better but I feel pretty poorly right now.

So please just let me alone to suffer in peace....and if I see the angels a comin' fer me, I'll let ya all know.
Dewey Dewster sufferin' in silence.......

Birds of a Feather

Hello out there in Blogland,

We really love birds. Well, not just any bird....we love Penguins.
Penguins just have the cutest look about them...walkin' on their two feet upright just like hoomans do. In fact they kinda look like hoomans...only smaller and oh yeah, they smell like they took a bath in fish.

Penguins alway look like they are dressed in a tuxedo and are on their way to a formal party.
But there are some special Penguins out there skatin' on ice and pushin' around a hockey stick.

The Pittsburgh Penguins. And they play hockey at the Igloo in the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. Ya know where that is? That's where we live, in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year and the people of Pittsburgh are pretty happy about that cause the Pgh. Pirates are havin' another losin' season....at least right now...but that is nothin' new.

We'll anyway I just thought I would dress up like a famous Penguin, Mario Lemieux. He lives here in Pittsburgh now and is part owner of the team. He used to be the Captain of the team but has retired now....cause he got....well......OLD.

Do I look like a hockey player or just an silly old bird? Wish I could get the black feathers to stick on this shirt........

Dewey Penguin Dewster skatin' here.........
