A Warning, Awards and Just Us

Hi ta all....

We always think that we're all safe in our own homes and that nothin' can happen ta us when we're there. But the following message shows everyone that accidents can happen and that those accidents can be fatal.......

WARNING FOR ALL PET LOVERS - In Memory of Ella .....Please share this info. with everyone you know so that no one else suffers the way I have.

PLASTIC BAGS ARE DEADLY TO YOUR DOG! In honor of our precious Ella's memory, I am crusading an effort to let everyone know that this can and does happen and hopefully I can save someone else from the same agonizing pain!

Our 9 month old Sheltie puppy, Ella, suffered a tragic, sudden, senseless death this past Friday. She suffocated to death on a bag liner that was inside a box of Cheez-its snack crackers. We were out for the evening and someone had left a box of Cheez-its within Ella's reach. She put her head in the bag inside the box to get to the crackers. The bag came out of the box but she couldn't get the bag off of her head. We came home and found her dead from suffocation. It doesn't seem possible, that a dog couldn't get a bag off their head, but they can' t.

I have since learned that this occurs more often than you would imagine. There was also a family whose 6 year old Labrador got hold of a Doritos bag when they weren't looking. They found him dead with the bag over his head, having died the same way as Ella. I also learned from the man that is cremating Ella for us that he has had FIVE other dogs that have died like this in the PAST MONTH! Make sure that ALL PLASTIC BAGS AND BOXES WITH BAG LINERS IN THEM (chips, snack crackers, cookies, cereal, etc.) are WAY out of your pets reach!!!!!!

This tragedy has been a tremendous blow for our family! I have tried to be strong, but the whole scenario has played out in my head over and over and I have been a total mess! I cannot begin to understand the senselessness of this and my heart is absolutely broken! Ella was so young and full of life...an adorable, sweet, smart, loving dog, and her life was cut short way too soon!

Please help me honor Ella and save someone else from this horrific tragedy by passing this email to as many people as you know!

Thank you!
Anne Mackey

Now we didn't know Ella but we're sure sad ta hear that she died so tragically. Everyone has their own way of raisin' their pets but puttin' em in a crate when ya go away is the safest way ya leave 'em. Ya also should take off their collar when ya put 'em in there so they don't accidently get strangled by gettin' caught on somethin'.

Now, we never get put in our crates unless Gram and Pap go out. As soon as Gram picks up the cars keys and her purse, we go right down ta the basement where our crates are and get in 'em. We always get a goodie when we go in there so we don't mind it a bit. Gram and Pap feel we're safe in there and the house is safe when we're in there too cause we can't rip up nothin' when we're locked up.

We offer our sincere sympathies ta Ella's family and hope that everyone else can learn from her Mom's heartfelt message.
__________________________________________
We also offer our sympathies ta the family of Gizmo, who went ta the bridge on Sept. 23, 2008. His brother Deetz and his Mom 'n Dad will sure miss 'em cause he was around fer more than 17 years.

Chef posted a whole bunch of stuff that dogs and cats have eaten that have got them in a peck of trouble. If ya haven't seen his list of "WATCH OUTs" please visit and read all about it.

The Tenacious Terriers

Ya all don't get ta see Toby much.... 'n he's such a nut all the time about jumpin' and bein' happy that we thought ya might want ta see how nuttie he can be when he's out in the yard. Notice how all our peemail has destroyed the grass.....'course the lack of rain keeps it that way too......

Then there's me, Dewey Dewster, who has been goin' outta my mind lately since I know there are rats in our garage and I can't get 'em. I know if I can only get ta that garage window, I can see those rats 'n tell 'em what I think, but it is just a little bit beyond my reach. Yep, they're right on the other side of that window...........

And then there's those rats......can ya imagine that they are still here til the end of October, no less.....livin' in our garage....'n eatin' food that we could be eatin'....'n just runnin' around like they own the place......I mean really......can't someone help us get 'em ??????

Update 9/26/08 Fer anyone that missed or fergot the fact that we handled the earthdog practice at the Doggie Fun Day a few weeks ago, we have the rats because ya need 'em fer earthdog. The earth doggies try ta get 'em in the tunnel...they can't get 'em cause they are in a cage but they try anyway. The next club meetin' isn't til the end of October.....then we will return the rats ta the club lady who cares fer 'em......at that time, we will no longer need tranquilizers ta get thru the day and we will feel that we did our job in gettin' rid of THOSE DIRTY RATS.......they are in a cage now and cannot get loose....and we can't get 'em either......drat those rats.......

Dewey Dewster here.....

Awards

Now we feel honored fer sure cause we got two more awards ta put on our blog. We feel pretty special that we were recognized by our friends and we would sure like ta thank 'em....yes siree.....

Chef presented us with the You Lift my Spirit award.......'n we're sure happy ta have it....that is one pretty lookin' butterfly.....

We would like ta pass this award on ta Eric Square Dog cause he always makes us smile 'n cringe too when he kisses Otis the kittie.

We would also like ta pass it on ta JB the Cat cause he always tries ta be wordless but just can't ever seem to keep quiet
-------------------------------------------------------
'N Abby was kind enough ta award us the Premio Dardos Award.

“Com o Prêmio Dardos, se reconhecem os valores que cada blogueiro mostra cada dia em seu empenho por transmitir valores culturais, éticos, literários, pessoais etc. que, em suma, demonstram sua criatividade através do pensamento vivo que permanece intacto entre suas letras e suas palavras.“Este selo implica duas regras:a primeira, linkar o blog do qual recebeu o prêmio. A segunda – escolher blogs para entregar o prêmio.

"With the Premium Dardos, recognize the values that each blogger shows each day in commitment to transmit cultural values, ethical, literary, personal etc. that, in short, demonstrate their creativity by alive thinking that remains intact from their letters and words. "

Now that Spanish sounds really pretty 'n we hope the English translation is the one above and we'll take Abby's word fer it, cause sadly we don't understand Spanish......but we would be happy ta learn someday....... Maybe Lorenza can help us a bit if she stops by......

'N it didn't seem like rules came with either award so we would like ta pass it on ta Joey and Tanner who are always big fans of our favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Thanks ta everyone.......

********************************************

FREECYCLE

'N Gram wants me ta tell anyone who has lots of STUFF like we have lots of STUFF and at times doesn't know what ta do with it...there's a group called FREECYCLE that ya can send in a list of STUFF ya want ta find a new home fer and don't want ta throw away. Every area has one of their own, like they have their own Craigslist. Gram dug up all those Dwarf Iris and we had so many that Gram and Judy just couldn't plant 'em all....so she just put 'em up on Freecycle and a ton of people wanted 'em. Most of 'em have already been picked up and the rest should be in their new home soon. Look fer the FREECYCLE in your area.

********************************************

Now that was sure a heap of stuff fer everyone ta read. Are ya still awake ?????

If so, have a great night or a great morning if yer in another part of the world.....

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on lots of stuff........

Hi, Dewey...

You sure did have lots of stuff to report on today...

Thanks for that plastic bag warning...

I have to ask why you have rats in your garage...Are they left over from Earth Dog Training? If we had rats in our garage, my Mom would be really freaked out...

Our mom always dog-proofs our house too. What a sad thing for those doggies families! We are hoping those rats, in your garage, are for your Earthdog stuff. We hope they didn't just move in to eat your dogfood!

Its so easy for doggies to get into trouble. I know momma tries her hardest to keep things out of our reach that might hurt us.

What's up with the rats in the garage? Are they living in a crate or something? I don't get it.

Hi Dewey,

Thanks for sharing Ella's story. At our place, we've got a nut called Mercury who hates polythene bags and newspapers...so they are banished the moment they come in (well...the newspapers are a different story - Cameo loves them!)

Toby's cool and you look so majestic standing there on that staircase!

About the rats...you are right....d-rat!I am not too keen on rats (don't like them...would like to give them a good long chase though!)

BTW, I just thought that I should tell you (especially because my blog is yours almost as much as it is mine...) I'm not posting regularly because these two are really busy - right now I'm stealing a moment (at their office - through remote access)...Cameo's out talking to a prospective client, so his computer's free.

I'll be back to normal when they are (at moments such as these, I wish for more independence and for a world where dogs would rule - they say...going to the dogs - what does it mean exactly? I mean is it going to really happen?!

Okay...bye...I've got to leave!

Thanks for sharing Ella's tragic story, Dewey. It sure is frightening how fragile a dog's existence is. We will be very careful with plastic bags now.

I love how Toby decides to take a flying leap to try and get over that fence. He is so clever.

The rats?? I'd love to go chasing them but Mama going, "eeeyew."

Congratulations on your awards. You totally earned them.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Doggies!! First of all, Toby is a prime example of a jumpin' beanie Lakeland...I have the firmest leggie muscles in the bunch from jumpin' on the shower door every morning and jumpin' at the hair dryer...

Secondly...YOU RUN TO UR CRATES WHEN UR PEEPS GET THE PURSE AND KEY ROUTINE??? Shame Terriers...

Run for the DOOR!!! And run out the door...make it take at least 15 times longer for the hoomans to try and leave ya...then after everyone comes in all mudddy....run allllll over the house so they can chase ya...and (THIS IS IMPORTANT...)NO MATTER WHAT THEY PUT IN UR CRATE...even peanut butter....DO NOT CAPITULATE....at least not without a struggle...mark our words...they won't leave half as often and will just take ya with twice as much....

We are experienced....

I get put in the crate too! My humans uncle had a dog that suffocated on a toy sock when left alone. So I only get a chew resistent mat in my crate along with my snuggle blanket that I only sleep on!

Sorry I haven't been around to check on you and all, but you know...humans, blah, blah, blah...

Poor Ella, that was a sad story. Thank you for the warning...I have trouble knwoing whats eat able and whats not too don't you? My pal Scoobie nearly died a few months ago after eating all the contents of a bottle of paracetemol that was left on the kitchen table,he was very lucky and his 2 leggededs besides themselves for 5 days till he pulled through:(

Now I'm wigging and wagging over my award- thank you thank you thank you pals, you are the best!!I promise not to show too many pictures of me kissing Otis but in the attitude of peace and love to all I think you should perhaps have a teeny weeny THINK about embracing that loving feelin'.... even towards the pesky rats????

Hi Dewey,

Thanks for the link:)

About running for office...a flight of my imagination really. I am not the political type. I am just a simple little pup who likes to close her eyes and imagine things:) I'd rather snuggle up between Cameo and Mercury and doze off listening to the sound of their voices...knowing that I am safe and secure!

But the debate made my imagination go wild:) Thanks for the link. Mercury n Cameo had a good laugh, especially when it came to the politician's perception of the voter...I agree completely.

Thanks again...It will be a while before I resume my normal blogging pace...these people have been up and working since 3:30 AM, which means the computers would be busy. And yes...you might think that Monday is a holiday for us - but this Monday isn't...not really! They plan to work the whole day! Shucks!

Love the videos of you and Toby being so rambunctious! And congrats on winning those cool awards! You sure deserve them...=)

Hope you had a great weekend!
