Nine Years Ago........Let us not forget........

Hi ya bloggies,

Nine years ago today

We were attacked by radical extremists.

They tried to destroy us....

But they didn't.......

They made us mad....

And they made us cry......

Our tears made rivers of sorrow

But formed mountains of resolve

And united us as a nation.

Today we honor everyone

That lost their life

On that fateful day

September 11, 2001

Let us never forget.......

And may

God Bless America !!!!

Yes, May God Bless America

My Home Sweet Home !!!!!

Summer is fer Playin', Havin' Fun and Reportin'

Hi ya bloggies....

Here I am reportin' from Northwestern Pa. again. Now ya might remember this picture of me from last year but I'm recyclin' it cause I want ta report from a vantage point  and Gram didn't get any good VANTAGE POINT pictures this trip. She is sooooo much in trouble lately......she's on probation as my assistant...I tell ya probation.....

Now Shafali (aka Mercury, Oorvi's Mom) has another contest on 'er blog. Ya need ta tell a story that goes with a caricature she drew fer the blog. Now I tell ya this one stumped me a bit cause every time I thought of somethin' clever, I thought of somethin' else that really happened......'n there was a war in my mind of stories....
Here's the story that won the war.....

Crime Never Pays

The door to the cell shut behind him with a clank and a thud.....his eyes scanned the room that would be his home for the next 5 years....a 6 X 6 cell with a commode and a cot. His leg was chained to the wall to remind him not to exhibit any more unruly behavior...it would not be tolerated.  He sat on the cold concrete floor, alone and afraid and just shook his head in disbelief.

They had set out early.....way before daybreak and found themselves walking the streets of West View, a little borough just north of the City of Pittsburgh. Lots of parked cars lined the streets there since the majority of the residents do not have driveways and garages.

The three of them... Jack, Will and Beth.... wandered up and down the streets trying car doors to see if by chance any were unlocked. You were likely to find any number of valuables left in those cars by unsuspecting residents....thinking they were safe and secure from prying eyes. As they went about their business, they heard a man shouting at them...the language was strong and the voice was angry. "Stop what you are doing, right now" he said "and stay right where you are". Jack who was seated in one of the autos looking through the glove box, jumped out and ran into the woods.

In the glow of a street light, Will and Beth saw a man approaching with a German Shepherd dog straining on his lead, his eyes wide and threatening. "If you don't stay right where you are, I am going to sic this dog on you both",  he said. It only took a second for them to decide not to press their luck and with a quick look at the dog, they stopped dead in their tracks and waited.

The man pulled out a cell phone and dialed 911 while the dog sat at attention before them. A short time later, the police arrived and took Will and Beth into custody. Good old Jack turned himself into police later.

The hero of the day is Paul Pokorny and a lot of kudos belong to his dog Cochesse who is normally a tail-wagging face-licking canine. Paul and Cochesse were simply out for an early morning walk trying to beat the heat of the day. This story is true....only the names of the accused have been changed to save them from further embarrassment.

When the Police Chief later presented Mr. Pokorny with a certificate of appreciation, he was told that $1700 in stolen jewelry had been recovered from the captured group. A crime spree met a timely end under the watchful eye of a man out walking his dog who was willing to get involved.

Now I'm tellin' ya this because Cochesse is my hero and I'm gonna be just like 'em when  I grow up. Here's a picture of him that appeared in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette along with their version the story. Ain't he beautiful....big 'n strong and handsome..... I guess that his Dad is OK lookin' too but that Cochesse...now that's a hunk.....

But because of the two of 'em 'n their bravery, our  little borough is a safer place....'n we're grateful ta both of 'em....

So there's my version of the story.....'n I hope ya like it......( ya will have ta excuse the different font sizes in the story as Blogger had its own mind tonight and Gram couldn't get 'em ta change it.)

A Tale of 2 Visits.......'N an Award fer the Blog too......

Hi Ya Bloggies......

Here I am reportin' about 2 different visits....one ta Kellers Lake by our cottage .....and one visit we had with Jake 'n Fergie, Miss Sally,'n Nina too......

Before I get inta the visits.....I have received an award.......'n I'm flattered ta get it too......
Mercury (aka Shafali)....who is Oorvi's Mom sent me this award fer my blog. Ain't it pretty? Thank ya very much Mercury......

Now this award comes with conditions and I will try ta fulfill the most important one....'n that's ta tell ya 7 things about me that ya may not already know.

So here goes.....7 things about Dewey Dewster......new ones....

1. I always like ta be the winner in everythin'.....I don't like ta lose anythin'....so when we play ball...the 3 of us...I always want ta be the one ta bring back the ball...all the time.

2. Because I always want ta be the one ta bring the ball back, if my Mom gets the ball, I body slam 'er so she'll drop it and I can get it....and if Toby gets the ball, I go over 'n try ta take it outta his mouth so I can bring it back.

3. I don't like Pap ta pet Toby 'n scratch his ears either.....so if I see Pap pettin' Toby, I just place myself right in between him 'n Pap so I get the pettin' n Toby doesn't.

4. I don't swim very well at all and I didn't know that until lately. We were at Kellers pond and I nearly drowned.....Gram 'n Pap too were all upset thinkin' their little baby Dewey  might not make it.

5. Every night I start out sleepin' in my nice doggie bed but  then I always crawl under the big bed ta sleep. It's hard ta get under there but I do it anyway.

6. I always act like I don't like Toby but I really do......he's my brother 'n I like ta play with 'em but I growl the whole time...just so he won't know.

7. I like ta think that I am fit 'n trim but I'm actually a bit overweight......'n I need ta go on a diet....the exercise doesn't seem ta be helpin' take off the weight.......'n that makes me sad....cause I like ta eat.....

Now ya know a whole let more about me than ya did before.......don't ya? Some might just want ta say that I'm spoiled....but I'm just bein' Dewey......

Now the second condition fer the award is ta pass it along ta 5 other blogs that ya think are worthy ta receive it....'n I know that all of ya are....'n maybe ya already did tell 7 things about ya....... so if ya want ta participate 'n tell everyone 7 more things about ya please take the award fer yerself....

Now Fer the Tale of Two Visits...

We had another visit ta the cottage 'n then we came home and Jake 'n Fergie....' Sally 'n Nina visited us too....
Check it out.......

Well, now that's one more report that I have filed with my new boss.....
This is Dewey Dewster sayin' that I hope everyone has a great week and I hope ya enjoyed my new report about a blog award 'n a Tale of 2 Visits......

My Aunt Jewels.....yer gonna love 'er.....fer sure.....

Hi ya bloggies,

I tell ya, it's gettin' harder 'n harder ta find the time ta publish a post. Why, this has been one humdinger of a summer 'n we've been real busy playin' ball at the cottage......'n gettin' hot.....gettin' cooled off in our pool......'n gettin tired.

Now, I'm warnin' ya that we have been playin' real hard and so I look a bit rumpled.......

But here I am reportin' from my bed under the coffee table at camp.......

Taday........I wanna tell ya all about my favorite Aunt Jewels........

Aunt Jewels lives with Grandma Judy and she is my Mom's sister and what a sister she is.....a real chip off the old block as they say and a terrier through 'n through......

Ya know that my Grandma Judy just loves animals.....all animals.....well, maybe not the skunk that was spraying in 'er yard a spell back....or the fox that was stalkin' 'er chickens......'er the porcupines.....cause ya know what they did ta us..........but all the other animals that ya might find in the country.

Yep, Grandma Judy buys corn.... 'n bird seed.... and lots of other food fer the birds, wild turkeys, deer and even racoons that happen ta stop by fer a meal. Why, she doesn't even mind it too much when the black bears come around except when they knock 'er bird feeders down.....then she's madder 'n a hornet at 'em.....

She just likes ta watch 'em and marvel at their beauty and grace...........
yep Grandma Judy is a softie......fer sure.....

Now Grandma Judy kept 3 puppies outta my Mom's litter.....Shawn C....Goober (who is really Uncle Shawn's dog) and Jewels.

Jewels is a real earthdog.....'n she didn't even go ta earthdog trainin'...can ya imagine......she just learned it all by herself.....

Meet my aunt Jewels.......
She looks pretty harmless, doesn't she? I can tell ya that ya are a fool if ya make that assumption of Aunt Jewels......yes siree........

Aunt Jewels is a hunter.......and Aunt Jewels is good one too !!!!!

She just goes out inta the yard and sniffs around and the first thing ya know out she comes with a little baby somethin' or other........

Yep....she just loves ta give 'em a big hug....usually with 'er mouth .....and then the baby somethin'
or other doesn't move anymore.....

She does that with the little baby bunnies that Grandma Judy really loves and tries ta protect.....
She does that with baby raccoons........'n baby birds too that are foolish enough ta venture inta her grass.....
And she even tries ta hug Grandma Judy's chickens.....now THAT is really frowned upon.......
If ya think she looks harmless....ya need ta look closer....much closer......

Poor Grandma Judy thinks my Aunt Jewels is really mean but my Gram goes over there and hugs 'er and tells 'er what a good earthdog she is......a terrier true ta her breed and encourages 'er ta keep up all the good work.....

So now that ya have met my Aunt Jewels.....what do you think about 'er ?

Ya can tell me....really ya can........
Me, I'm just not gonna think about 'er anymore right now cause I'm tired.......

                     Toby's tired.............
'N my Mom's tired too......

I have a feelin' that's why Gram always throws the ball fer us....she knows that we're gonna run and bring it back and that's gonna make us tired......

What do ya think....is she tryin' ta wear us out?????

So until next time, I'm gonna share a picture with ya of one of the many butterflies that we have visitin' our flowers......and I'm gonna dream of huggin' a baby bunny........

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on my favorite Aunt Jewels...........bein' really tired from playin' ball and the butterflies on our flowers.

Have a great weekend everyone !!!!!

Another Country Visit... 'n A Whale of a Tale

I tell ya bloggies,

This has been a summer of bein' busy 'n just plain doin' things. Why we've been back 'n forth ta the cottage, on ta earthdog practice 'n back again, But now we're back up ta the cottage 'n we're havin' another grand time.

So since I have a new job, bein' a reporter, a real reporter......I have another report ta file.........

We were over ta Grandma Judy's house again 'n after dinner we looked out inta the side yard and what did we see ?

Well, let me show ya......

Those are deer eatin' corn Grandma Judy puts out fer 'em. I tell ya Grandma Judy gets ta see a ton of animals eatin' at 'er place cause she always makes sure they have plently of stuff ta eat.

After seein' animals eat at Grandma Judy's, we went back ta our cottage ta have some fun and cool off. I know that ya have seen this kind of stuff before but we did it again........
*************************

Now bein' a special canine reporter is a really hard job. 'N I always try ta do my best at collectin' all the facts 'n then filin' my report.

Gram and my new employer too said that I needed ta get a haircut and a cleaner look so people would take me fer a serious reporter. So I got a haircut and a new pair of glasses and even put on a scarf ta make myself look more professional. Like the new look?

'N then I went over ta visit Oorvi's Mom, Mercury aka Shafali, cause she has a new carnival goin' on ta tell a story about a  new caricature that she posted on 'er blog. I figured since I am a great reporter now, I could report on a great adventure that happened ta me this trip north...........
'N here it is.......
***************************

A Whale of a Tale

It was a warm summer day, the sun was shinin’ brightly and a cool breeze gently caressed the leaves and blades of grass makin' 'em dance like fairies in the sunlight. Gram ‘n Pap took all of us out fer a walk in the woods…..’n that’s one of our favorite things ta do here in the country. I always like ta run ahead of the pack cause I’ want ta be the first one ta get the best smells, the first one ta find the invadin’ vermin and the first one ta ignore Gram’s call ta come back.

Since I love ta be consistent, I was way ahead of everyone else as I came out of the woods inta a small clearing. I thought I heard a scratchin’ noise, so my ears perked right up and my tail started twitchin’. I was still and alert waitin’ ta see if the scratchin’ sound came again. It did.

I put my nose ta the ground ta see if I could follow any scent. Could this be a vermin diggin’ a tunnel ta escape my jaws or a turkey scratchin’ fer food? I wanted ta find out. Fer sure......

So I went further inta the clearin’ and further away from Gram, Pap, and my Mom ‘n Toby. I was on my own in this adventure. But I didn’t care…..somethin’was up and I wanted ta know what it was.

I came around a big clump of brush and the scratchin sound got louder…..I was getting’ closer ta the source of my curiosity. I perked my ears up another notch and listened again……the noise was comin’ from just around the bend so I ventured on quietly….tryin’ not ta step on any twigs or fallen branches.

As I rounded the bend, I saw a sight the likes of which I have never seen before. There knelt a woman that looked like someone straight outta a circus. She had on long flowin’ clothes, certainly not the kind of outfit ya expect ta see in the middle of a clearin’ just outside of the woods. Jewelry hung from her neck and ears and as I rounded the corner, she looked up and smiled at me. It was the smile of a clown with a painted face. She had blackened, raised eyebrows, wild eyes and a shock of unruly hair wavin’ in the breeze on the top of ‘er pointed head. I stopped dead in my tracks. I had never seen a creature like this even in my wildest dreams….those were usually reserved for rabbits, chipmunks, mice and rats……and this vision before me was absolutely frightenin’. The garish creature was somethin’ outta a cartoon book.

In ‘er hand she held a shovel….the kind Gram ‘n Pap use ta dig holes fer the garden plants. There was a pile of dirt under the shovel and I swear that it looked like the toes of a foot sticken outta that mound of dirt. I tell ya it made me take a step or two back so that I could survey the situation from a safe distance……I mean Gram ‘n Pap had no idea where I was and I didn’t hear my Mom or Toby barkin’ so I was on my own here and strange things were floatin’ through my mind and they weren’t anythin’ comfortin’ I tell ya….no siree…..there was no comfort there at all.

It brought ta mind a plot on Days of Our Lives, Gram’s soap-opera, where Vivian Alamain buried Carly Manning alive years ago. Why did she do it? Because she didn’t like ‘er…can ya imagine bein’ buried alive? I sure couldn’t imagine what a horrible feelin’ that would be. I do remember Gram tellin’ me that Carly was found in time ta save ‘er from a horrible fate of dyin’ before ‘er time. Now would the person whose toes I was starin’ at be that lucky?

Well, that was up ta me….wasn’t it? I was the only one around ‘n if anyone was gonna change the fate of the person attached ta those toes, it would have ta be me. I squared up my shoulders, held my head erect, perked up my ears, cranked up my tail and let out a blood curdlin’ bark. And another. And another. I just stood there barkin’ at that silly-lookin’ woman with the garish face and outlandish costume.

She stopped what she was doin’ and got up from her kneelin’ position. Without sayin’ a word or utterin’ a sound, she turned ta face the woods and ran. And ran and ran…….. I tell ya she sure wasn’t dressed fer runnin’ in the woods….no siree. But she ran like a banshee…those flowin’ clothes were awavin’ in the breeze. I watched as she disappeared from sight deep inta the thicket of trees.

The next step was up ta me. I ran ta the mound of dirt and began ta dig…..’n dig…..’n dig. Why I always knew that I could be an earthdog if I really tried and now was my chance. Dirt was flyin’ in all directions and I was diggin’ a hole that would make my Pap proud……’n my Gram mad cause I was getting’ dirty and my Mom jealous cause it was a fantastic hole. Silly Toby wouldn’t know what ta make of it at all. I dug ‘n I dug until I uncovered the rest of the foot belongin’ ta those toes. The toes weren’t wigglin’ at all…’n that was not a good omen…..not at all. I started diggin’ faster ‘n faster.

I was nearly speechless (well, maybe barkless....) after findin’ a leg but not the soft fleshy one I was expectin’. The leg was plastic ‘n attached ta a manikin…the kind ya see dressed in fancy clothes in a store window. It wasn’t Carly Manning that I was savin’ from a terrible fate at all…..it was a silly statue. I was mortified….simply mortified. How could I make such a terrible mistake? It had ta be one whopper of a mistake because I always listened ta Gram’s silly stories about her Soap- Opera and the terrible things the villains did ta the pillars of the community. I was duped. Thankfully no one saw me dig up the manikin. I could cover up the hole and be on my way back ta Gram, Pap and the rest of the terriers before anyone discovered my mistake. It was embarassin’ ta say the least.

And that’s what I did. My paws threw that dirt back inta the hole and I covered up all the evidence including those silly telltale non-wigglin’ toes. What was that woman doin’ in the woods in that fancy clothin’ diggin’ a hole ta bury a statue? There she was actin’ extremely suspicious, runnin’ after I barked and disappearin’ deep inta those woods. I don’t think there was a circus in town and that’s where she belonged. I have no idea what she was up ta and I guess I will never know what her real purpose was….she was long gone ‘n I was left standin’ there lookin’ utterly confused.

‘N I tell ya that no one else will know about it either cause I’m not tellin’ anyone how stupid I was ta fall fer that suspicious lookin’ scene unfoldin’ before my very eyes in a clearin’ in the wilderness. My bark is sealed.

‘N I’m countin’ on ya not ta tell either. Ya won’t say a word, will ya? Please tell me yer lips are sealed…..’n yer bark too…….

A Special Dewey Dewster Report

      Hi Ya Bloggies.....

Why....I hardly ever get ta see ya anymore.....

Do ya wonder Why ???

Well, I'll tell ya why.......

I got a job.........

Yep.......I got a REAL REPORTER JOB

Gram said I needed ta help ta pay fer our food now......sheesh, I didn't think I ate THAT MUCH....

So I prepared my resume

and

sent it right out.

I even enclosed a picture of myself with my trusty camera case and cool shades....

Just so they would know that I had the right equipment and that I looked like a REAL  REPORTER....

I look much more professional when I'm the one takin' the pictures.....

I hate that flash beastie.....

I had ta submit a sample of my work ta be considered fer the job.....

So we hopped inta the car and went up ta Grandma Judy's......

'Cause we heard there were some new babies there.......

Ya can all tell me if ya think I filed a GOOD REPORT....

Well.....what do ya think ???? Aren't those babies just darlin' ?

I rest my case......

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on bein'
 a
Real Reporter
and
New Babies at Grandma Judy's.......

And ta every Dad out there......

Have a Great Father's Day this Sunday !!!

Free at last...........

Hi ya bloggies.....

I tell ya, after spendin' all that time in Florida without toys 'n without a yard ta play in, we were ready fer some good exercise so we could stretch our legs and flex our muscles.

We have a yard at home but it's pretty little and ya can't do much runnin' around there before ya run right inta the fence.

So Gram 'n Pap took us ta the cottage so we could really run and have some fun too.

I have been playin' with my toys non-stop since we got back. Ya have ta count 'em every once in a while ta make sure they are all still there.......
I also have ta make sure no one steals 'em......

I was lookin' in the toybox at the cottage fer a special toy and was havin' a devil of a time findin' it.

If I could just see inta the bottom of the toy box, maybe I could find that toy........

Toby always tries ta help but there just isn't room in that box fer two of us........

We had some pretty nice weather this visit and so we got ta play some serious ball. Now ya have ta understand that my Mom has loved ta play ball since she was a little pup. Now I love ta play ball. And Toby does too. Fer some reason my Mom doesn't want Toby ta play...'n so she gets mad at 'em.

I tell ya one of these days, Toby's gonna get mad right back at 'er.....

Now since ya have seen us play ball before...do ya remember what happens when my Mom gets hot?

Yep...ya guessed it......don't ya wonder how she gets 'er whole body inta that little pan? I tell ya.. it defies all logic.

We even splashed water onta Gram's camera lens on this one........but ya can get the picture.....

Geez, we sure hate ta leave once we get here but we know that we can always come back again......freedom ta us always means....well, bein' free.......

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on a cottage visit, playin' ball and coolin' off.........Have a great weekend everyone.....
