Hi Bloggies,

Do you remember when my Mom won all those ribbons......

'n the titles ta go with 'em by goin' inta a silly little tunnel

 ta try ta finds some rats in cages at the end of it ?

Do ya remember that....do ya  ????

Silly ribbons.....silly titles.....silly job....

Now I....Dewey Dewster....am a real earthdog cause I don't need ta go inta a tunnel ta capture a

vermin......

I can capture a vermin by patrollin' our yard and sniffin' round.....

Yep, when I get out there, I know if somethin' has been there that doesn't belong.....

Like the other day....I went out and smelled somethin' that wasn't quite right.....

Somethin' moved in MY YARD that didn't belong there.......

'N I had ta teach 'em a lesson......

I guess ya know what it was....don't ya?

Yep....it was a RAT !!!!!

'N somehow or other..... he ended up in my mouth....see 'em in there ????

I was pretty proud of that RAT....I tell ya......

I caught it fair 'n square......

I am the KING of the YARD cause I caught the VERMIN in our yard........

My Mom 'n Toby wanted ta take my Rat away but I wouldn't let 'em.......cause he was MINE !!!!!

'N if that rat wasn't bad enough.....

I discovered another VERMIN in our yard.....

but I could never get 'em. I knew he was there though....

'n so did Gram 'n Pap too cause when they went ta pick their one and only cantalope outta the garden....

they found out that it was gone.....not a trace of it was left either....

So Pap put out the trap ta see what he could catch.....

He caught a raccoon........see 'em in there ?????

Why he ate Gram's prize cantalope....he did...the little piggie.....

Silly Raccoon....

He needed ta go fer a long ride ta find a new home cause we didn't want 'em here..........

We got ta check 'em out before he left so we would remember what a raccoon smelled like....

just in case some of his relatives stopped by later on.......

So as ya can see there was a lot of excitement aound our house lately......

But as usual, I, Dewey Dewster......saved the day......

Yep.......there's nothin' quite as special as havin' Dewey Dewster around.......

Well, as usual it's my Mom....

Last Saturday August 20, 2011, my Mom passed her 3rd and last qualifying senior earthdog meet at the Wester Pa Earthdog Club in Donegal, Pa.

Ya have ta pass the Senior Earthdog test 3 times ta get yer Senior Earthdog  title and so this was the one that really was important.

 There's the earthdog judge with my Gram 'n my Mom after she won the 2 ribbons.

One fer passin' the test

and the second one fer gettin' 'er Senior Earthdog title.

 See there's those 2 ribbons Mom won last Saturday.........

She's always showin' off.......

Not funny Mom.....not funny at all.....

 

 Now there's all the ribbons that my Mom won........

Fer some reason, she sure doesn't look happy....

But then that flash beastie drive her nuts so she won't look at it.........

That's what the entrance ta the Senior Earthdog tunnel looks like....

It's 30 feet long with two 90 degree turns in it, a false den and a false exit or entrance 

which ya better not go in cause ya get failed. 

It's only 9 inches high and wide.

My Mom goes right in cause she knows the rats are in there 'n she wants ta get 'em....

Too bad she never gets ta get 'em cause they are safe in a little cage at the end of the tunnel.

But she sure has fun tryin'.....

Now ya may be wonderin' why I....Dewey Dewster do not have any earthdog ribbons......

I'm still tryin' ta figure that one out myself.....

Cause I'm a master hunter.....fer sure.....

Just watch what I can do.......

Ya can see that I know what I'm doin'.....why I'm chasin' a Vermin....

I know there's vermin in that wood pile 'n I want 'em.

So Gram promised me that next year, I get ta try ta get my Junior Earthdog title ........

It's along story why I didn't get ta try this year 'n last too......

I'll explain later.......yes siree.....

Catchin' Up on News........

Hi every Bloggie....

A lot has happened the past week or so and I finally got Gram ta sit down fer a spell so she could help us tell ya all about it.

Last Saturday and Sunday were the Earthdog tests and my Mom was entered inta Senior Earthdog cause she got her Junior title last year. 'N I was entered inta Junior Earthdog again cause last year I didn't do nothin' last year....nope, not a thing....had ta take the test all over again.....nerve wrackin' fer sure.....

So off we went on Saturday on the Pa. Turnpike ta get ta Woodside......'n guess what happened???? Just as we got onta the turnpike, the car got sick....it wouldn't go....'n this is what happened ta us.....

Can ya imagine us there in the car all by our lonesome....wonderin' if we were gonna get ta Woodside alive while the car is goin' down the road without anyone at the wheel.....scary.....yes siree.... downright scary fer sure.... (it was a transmission collant hose that broke, scary but not fatal)

We had ta call brother Scott ta pick us up at the car dealer where the car was towed and take us ta our house ta get the other car 'n then we were back on the road on the way ta Donegal. Finally we arrived at Woodside just in time fer the tests.

Gram was pretty busy since we were late gettin' there 'n she didn't have time ta take any more pictures cause my test place was different from my Mom's 'n she had ta run back 'n forth....

Now I wanna tell ya that it was really hot both Saturday and Sunday and they had little kiddie pools set up so the doggies could cool off cause chasin' rats in a tunnel is hard work. This is me in our pool at the cottage but ya get the idea........

Now before I tell ya what happened those 2 days, just remember that I did tell ya that my Mom is a better earthdog than I am and so ya sure won't be surprised ta see what she got last Saturday and Sunday.....

Those 2 ribbons are fer Senior Earthdog.....ya have ta pass the Senior Earthdog test 3 times so my Mom has ta pass it one more time ta get 'er Senior Earthdog title. But see how many ribbons she already has......sheesh.....looks like a friggin' monument doesn't it?????
I can tell ya none of those ribbons are fer me......

Why, ya may ask ????

Well, because I did the same thin' this year that I did last year......

What's that ????

Why, nothin'....not a thing...nada.....I laid a bunch of eggs......I was afraid of the earthdog judge...'n I didn't want ta go inta the tunnel when the judge was at the end of it. Even more frightenin' is the fact that the stop watch they use makes a noise that sounds like the warnin' beep on our electric fence collars....'n once I heard that I wanted outta there pronto........scat man Dewey.......

Gram says I need a new name.....can't use Dewey Dewster anymore....nope....need ta be called Dewey the Dudd or Dewey the Dunce........got me a dunce cap which I thought was rather stylish....don't ya think ????? But I wanted ta know what a dunce was so I got on Gram's computer 'n googled it ta see what kinda guy I was gonna be from now on.....

One last thing......Pap 'n Gram took Parker 'n my fur Dad, Fred....'n my fur brother George down ta the playground by their house......do ya think we all look alike ??? Do I favor my Dad more than my bro ????? My Dad is the one on the right....

Well, I guess I better start searchin the web on ways ta be more like my Mom so I can get some ribbons like hers......now what key-word search do I use fer that??????

We Love Earthdog

Hi ta all....

Taday we hopped on the Pa. Turnpike and got off at Donegal and went ta have some more earthdog fun.

My Mom gets excited when we get off the turnpike and even more excited when we turn onta the road ta Woodside.....Earthdog Heaven.......

The view from Woodside is breath-takin'...ya can see ferever.......

Mr Rat is always there when we're there fer earthdog fun and this Westie is checkin' 'em out.....

People are lined up at the Intro to Earthdog tunnels ta see if their dogs are interested in chasin' a rat in a tunnel.....

There were a few new people there this weekend and they got ta meet Mr Rat......when a terrier meets Mr Rat....all they want ta do is get 'em......... ya almost have ta feel sorry fer the rat....notice I say ALMOST..............

Now this Cairn Terrier is tellin' Mr Rat just what he thinks of 'em bein' around Woodside....

Then there's Parker again.......he was over ta our house with his Mum 'n Dad and he got onta the little ATV that I thought was mine but he thought it was his......guess what ???? It is his.......

He likes ta find out about his new toys all by himself.........

One more thing.........Gram has had this Hoya plant fer probably 30 years and until lately it never bloomed. Gram likes ta start new plants from pieces of the ones she has and everytime she would give a hoya away that she started from this one, the recipient would say "You didn't tell me that it bloomed ". 'N Gram always said that her's never did. Now she has one of those waterin' globes in there and the Hoya is bloomin' up a storm.....FINALLY......

The Season Comes Ta An End My Friends

Gee Whizz Everyone....

Doesn't it seem like the summer just flew by......one day we were sweatin'... the next day we were freezin'.......well, now it seems like we're just gonna be freezin'.....at least fer the near future anyway.

Now last Sunday it was still pretty nice....in the low fifties and sunny...but windy....and we had our last earthdog practice and meetin'.....So off we went ta the Donegal exit of the Pa. Turnpike ta get ta earthdog and have some fun, fun, fun....

Now we didn't get inta costumes so we're not in the pictures but there were some doggies who were dressed up and they looked pretty cute too.

Hope ya enjoy it......we're back at the cottage again fer a week and so we might not be around ta visit much since it take about 15 minutes fer one blog page ta load there with the tin-can dialup service. Doggie Fun Day Report

Hello Ta All this fine day........


Well, it wasn't all that fine cause after it rained pretty much all day Friday and Saturday, it was hot and windy taday........but taday was Doggie Fun Day and we wanted ta have FUN, FUN, FUN !!!!!!!!

We were ready ta go early this mornin' and after we had all the stuff packed in the car and trailer, we left ta drive ta Butler, Pa. fer the big day.........

There were a bunch of 12 week old Bassett Hounds next ta where we set up and Gram went over ta see 'em........Cute, aren't they.......

There were rings set up fer practicin' Obedience and this doggie was in that ring with his Mom.....

Then a celebrity appeared 'n everyone went over ta see who it was....we were pretty sure it was Angelina Jolie but now we think maybe it wasn't her at all.....but she was a celebrity fer sure.....

Ya can see some of the rings they had set up there so people could try Agility, Rally, Canine Good citizen, Earthdog, and Conformation with their doggies.......

And some more of the doggie day goodies.....

People were a bit slow gettin' there and then we got busy cause we were runnin' the earthdog stuff fer all the people ta try......

Oh, this is the father of some of the puppy bassett hounds....


We had a lab puppy that wanted ta bark at the rats we had in the cage.

Labs can't get inta the tunnels cause they get too big....Earthdog is only fer small terriers and a few other breeds. But this guy was barkin' at the rats anyway...

Then one of the WPA Earthdog Club members, Donna, was there taday with her 2 Westies. She has been tryin' ta get Angel ta get interested in the rats fer earthdog fer years now. Well, taday, Angel got interested in the rats. See what ya think....

Now we all had a fun day but it was hot 'n windy so everyone is pretty tired tonight. But we think Doggie Fun Day was a big success......'n we're ready ta plan fer next year.

Earthdogin' and Talley

Hello ta all......

This was the weekend for the earthdog tests at Woodside near Donegal, Pa. and all of us and Gram and Pap headed out in the car ta get there....

We always have ta pass thru the city ta get to the Pa. turnpike and everytime Gram gets on the Veterans Bridge she gets mad cause she doesn't have her camera ready ...and the view is pretty spectacular 'n so this time she had it ready....but we were goin' pretty fast so the only picture she liked is this one...that sloped building is the Convention center and that is the Allegheny River.

Woodside is partway down a hill but it is still up pretty high and the view is wonderful. Ya can see some of the shelters here of the earthdog participants and the hills beyond.
I met my new girlfriend again...'n I got 'er name wrong last time...she is Talley, not Callie ('n i hope I spelled it right Linda)...but it was an honest mistake cause Linda did say earlier she was goin' ta maybe change it but didn't.....LOOK HERE...me and Talley sharin' a little kiss.....

'n here we are really tryin' out a kiss...nose ta nose....Dewey Dewster and Talley......two terriers in love......ooooowwww ain't it grand?????

That's Gram, My Mom and the Earthdog judge after Mom won a ribbon fer the first leg of her Junior Earthdog on Saturday......right in the tunnel...reached the judge in 13 seconds....barked like a nut....worked the rats fer 60 seconds...didn't even want outta the tunnel cause she wanted those rats bad......
See that????? That's all the ribbons my Mom won over Saturday and Sunday.....she got her Junior Earthdog Title......Horray fer Mom!!!!!

That's Dewey Dewster with egg on my face cause I didn't do anything on Saturday and Sunday....nothin'......do ya hear that nothin'.....on Sunday I didn't even want ta go in the tunnel at all....I wanted Gram ta pick me up.....never left 'er side at all.....no siree...non participatin' Dewey is what I'm called.....no earthdog title fer me......

And the worst part was that then Talley didn't want ta go out with me anymore....can ya believe that ????? I guess I'm gonna have ta start again from scratch ta make 'er acquaintance again next year....see if I can impress 'er with my charms and try ta do earthdog again....woe is me....woe is me......Dewey Dewster earthdog failure......

A Wonderful Sunday

Happy weekend ta ya all....

Well, the weekend is just about over but we had a great day taday, Sunday, at earthdog practice..... The weatherman was callin' fer rain and cooler temperatures and so when we left this morning, we watched those big black clouds hang over Pittsburgh.......

Here's the Mon River again from the movin' car as we passed thru the city on our way ta the country....

Ya gotta love those bridges, don't ya???? and the hills too and the water....but we just kept on goin'........

We got put in the X-pen so Gram and Pap could attend the earthdog club meetin'....'n talk ta some new friends they made....

I don't know if ya remember Slider, the Welsh terrier from our first earthdog post....but here he is again with a new little sister, Callie.....also a Welsh terrier....Slider is on the right. Callie is a real cutie pie.....'n if I wasn't so intent on gettin' those rats taday...I woulda checked 'er out more....since Lacie was mean ta us maybe Callie would be willin' ta have a date with me. I guess I need ta ask 'er Mom, Linda, first before I approach 'er.....but isn't she a sweet little thing????

'We get ta see 'em both again next week when we go back fer the tests....can't wait.......

Now we had a good practice taday and Gram got some good video so ya can see what we do at earthdog practice.....Here it is....

After we were finished practicin' Gram went around and took some video of all the activity goin' on and there was a bunch of it....have a look see.....

Gee wasn't that a wild Sunday ?????? Can ya tell everyone had FUN FUN FUN ?????

Oh, one more thing...Gram was shoppin' in the Mall and found a sort of stuffed Wire Fox Terrier in a store there....Wait til ya see it....

And she also made a new batch of clay dogs for the Earthdog auction...they got dropped off taday but this slideshow has pictures of the clay dogs and the new stuffed dog....
