A Terrier Tale

Hi ya Bloggies,

I tell ya that I never get a chance ta post anymore but part of that problem is

because nothin' special has been happenin' around here.

While everyone doggie in THIS HOUSE is sane,

I can't say as much fer my father, Fred.....my fur father, that is....

and my looney brother, George.

They both live with my hooman brother Scott and his family.....

far , far away.....just the way we like it.

Ya don't want any more competition than ya can handle, do ya?

Nope....didn't think so......but then neither do we......

Anyway....Gram 'n Pap were over ta the nutty terriers place recently

and they took a few pictures so we could see what they were up ta.

Nothin' interestin' I can truthfully say, but I'll show the pictures ta ya anyway.

There's a swingset in the backyard fer the kids....

really fer kids only....but ya know all about terriers....don't ya....

they always think everythin' is fer them too.

So George was up in the little landing by the slide just lookin' silly.....

Silly George...checkin' out his domain....

'N he was a showin' off too..... lookin' around like he owns the place......

yep, he really is my brother....but please DO NOT TELL ANYONE ELSE, PLEASE.....

George..... Lookin' like he doesn't have a care in the world...

Then George got the brilliant idea ta give the slide a try.....

so he moved over ta the top of the slide......

Ya all know how Dads can be....don't ya.....

Bossy.....very Bossy........indeed.....
Ah ha........Fred....did not want George ta go down the slide......no siree

So Fred decided ta try gettin' at George from BELOW..

I'm comin' ta get ya, Boy....do ya hear me?
I may be older than ya are, but I can still whip yer chops.....

Look out cause here I come....ready or not.......

Sheesh....this slide is pretty slippery fer terrier feet.....

I swear, I'll get ya later, George....

Yes siree, I will......

He, he, he, he, he, he.....

The slippery slide saved the day fer my silly brother, George.....

See him standin' up there with a smirk on his face?

Ya might have ta back up a bit ta have another look.

Ya can't ?....well imagine a silly smirk..... if ya will.....

'cause that's what I'm thinkin' happened....

Smirk, smirk, smirk....

I had the last laugh, ya old coot......

This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on some really strange goings-on at the kids swingset.....Here's hopin' that soon we have a bit of excitement of our own ta report.......Dewey D.....Over and out.....

Catchin' Up on News........

Hi every Bloggie....

A lot has happened the past week or so and I finally got Gram ta sit down fer a spell so she could help us tell ya all about it.

Last Saturday and Sunday were the Earthdog tests and my Mom was entered inta Senior Earthdog cause she got her Junior title last year. 'N I was entered inta Junior Earthdog again cause last year I didn't do nothin' last year....nope, not a thing....had ta take the test all over again.....nerve wrackin' fer sure.....

So off we went on Saturday on the Pa. Turnpike ta get ta Woodside......'n guess what happened???? Just as we got onta the turnpike, the car got sick....it wouldn't go....'n this is what happened ta us.....

Can ya imagine us there in the car all by our lonesome....wonderin' if we were gonna get ta Woodside alive while the car is goin' down the road without anyone at the wheel.....scary.....yes siree.... downright scary fer sure.... (it was a transmission collant hose that broke, scary but not fatal)

We had ta call brother Scott ta pick us up at the car dealer where the car was towed and take us ta our house ta get the other car 'n then we were back on the road on the way ta Donegal. Finally we arrived at Woodside just in time fer the tests.

Gram was pretty busy since we were late gettin' there 'n she didn't have time ta take any more pictures cause my test place was different from my Mom's 'n she had ta run back 'n forth....

Now I wanna tell ya that it was really hot both Saturday and Sunday and they had little kiddie pools set up so the doggies could cool off cause chasin' rats in a tunnel is hard work. This is me in our pool at the cottage but ya get the idea........

Now before I tell ya what happened those 2 days, just remember that I did tell ya that my Mom is a better earthdog than I am and so ya sure won't be surprised ta see what she got last Saturday and Sunday.....

Those 2 ribbons are fer Senior Earthdog.....ya have ta pass the Senior Earthdog test 3 times so my Mom has ta pass it one more time ta get 'er Senior Earthdog title. But see how many ribbons she already has......sheesh.....looks like a friggin' monument doesn't it?????
I can tell ya none of those ribbons are fer me......

Why, ya may ask ????

Well, because I did the same thin' this year that I did last year......

What's that ????

Why, nothin'....not a thing...nada.....I laid a bunch of eggs......I was afraid of the earthdog judge...'n I didn't want ta go inta the tunnel when the judge was at the end of it. Even more frightenin' is the fact that the stop watch they use makes a noise that sounds like the warnin' beep on our electric fence collars....'n once I heard that I wanted outta there pronto........scat man Dewey.......

Gram says I need a new name.....can't use Dewey Dewster anymore....nope....need ta be called Dewey the Dudd or Dewey the Dunce........got me a dunce cap which I thought was rather stylish....don't ya think ????? But I wanted ta know what a dunce was so I got on Gram's computer 'n googled it ta see what kinda guy I was gonna be from now on.....

DUNCE

Dunce
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dunce is a person incapable of learning.

The word is derived from the name of the great Scholastic theologian and philosopher John Duns Scotus, whose works on logic, theology and philosophy were accepted textbooks in the universities from the 14th century. Duns or Dunsman was a name applied by early opponents to the followers of Duns Scotus, who were less disparagingly called the Scotists. Hence the term came to refer to anyone devoted to sophistry in their argumentation. When, in the 16th century, the Scotists obstinately opposed the new learning (i.e., the English Renaissance), the term duns or dunce became, in the mouths of the humanists and reformers, a term of abuse, a synonym for one incapable of scholarship. Dunces are often comedically shown wearing paper cone hats, known as dunce caps, with the word "dunce" or "dumb", or simply a capitalized "D" on them. Schoolchildren were sometimes compelled to wear a dunce cap and to sit in a stool in the corner as a form of humiliating punishment for misbehaving or for failing to demonstrate that they had properly performed their studies.

Sheesh, It sounds like I'm not ever gonna learn how ta go inta the tunnel while that judge is sittin' there.

I sure don't want ta be Dewey the dunce....nope....no siree....not in a million years.

What can I do so that I'm not afraid of the earthdog judge ????? HELP me guys.....I can't let my Mom make me look like a schmuck here........

One last thing......Pap 'n Gram took Parker 'n my fur Dad, Fred....'n my fur brother George down ta the playground by their house......do ya think we all look alike ??? Do I favor my Dad more than my bro ????? My Dad is the one on the right....

Well, I guess I better start searchin the web on ways ta be more like my Mom so I can get some ribbons like hers......now what key-word search do I use fer that??????

This is Dewey the Dunce reportin' on earthdog ribbons, our sick car.. 'n my new name....

Have a great week everyone !!!!!!!

Well......Ya Coulda Called Us.........

W..E..L..L.....Now ya all show up......

Where were ya when I needed ya????? Huh ? Where were ya before I got lead ta the slaughter house ???? Ya coulda called us ta let us know we weren't goin' ta meet any sweetie pies on Monday.......

No siree.... we didn't see even one.....ya wanna know where we went ????
We went ta a Spay/Neuter Clinic......'n I can tell ya that we didn't come outta there lookin' like we did when we went in. Nope......missin' parts.......I tell ya.....'n important ones too......Now, I am not a happy camper at all here.......

No more dreamin' about bein' the father if 18 beautiful wire fox terrier puppies.......I'll never even be the father of 1 wire fox terrier pup.....no more dreamin' at all fer me......no siree....might as well never even go ta sleep anymore.....those days are over....

When I found out what was goin' on, I asked Gram ta at least get me neuticles.........so I would look the same way and then the girls would still love me........

But NO..... Gram was havin' none of that....none fer Toby either....not that he knows the difference...silly overgrown puppy that he is....why Joey was right when he said that Toby is a Doofuss......

Look at 'em.....does he look sad ta ya?????? Does he look like he minds the fact that he will never see little Tobys runnin' around????? Never.....not ever.....none.....nada.......

No, he's a Doofuss and all he wants ta do is play, play, play.........

'N while we were gettin' carved ta bits.....did Gram and Pap stay ta see if maybe we might need any help there? Nope....they went ta brother Scott's place where Fred and George badly needed a hair cut......

Just look at George there.....can ya even tell that he's a Wire Fox terrier and my brother ta boot???
And Fred.....does he look like my Father ???? Does he???? I think he looks like a hairball.....why, neither one of 'em seem ta have any eyes in there......

Now Gram and Pap worked on 'em all day and that pile of hair is just from George....there was another one just as big from Fred.....

Now here's Fred after Gram took a ton of hair off him....why he got his eyes back....'n there were pink spots on 'em too....so Scott and Heather will have ta be careful in the frigid weather we're gettin' now.....

'N then there's George.....minus a ton 'o hair 'n with pink spots on 'em too. He needs ta bundle up before goin' out in this cold weather.....fer sure........

There's George again.....he wasn't even mad at Gram fer pullin' off all his hair....I mean didn't she know how long it took 'em ta grow it all ??????

So I tell ya I'm still comin' ta grips with what happened ta us on Monday.......but one thing is fer sure.....we can throw away all those Dog Breedin' books pronto.....won't need those anymore......nope.....

Gee, I sure hope the girls will still like me anyway.......after all I'm still Dewey.......
This is Dewey Dewster reportin' on his worst week ever.....

The Shearing of the Sheep

Hi Ya Blogland Friends,

Tonight we are goin to talk about shearing sheep. Ya know what that is?
Sheep shearing, typically just called shearing, is the process by which the woollen fleece of a sheep is removed. The person who removes the sheep's wool is called a shearer. Typically shearing occurs once per year per sheep. The annual shearing most often occurs in a shearing shed, a facility especially designed to process often hundreds and sometimes over 3,000 sheep per day. And that's a lot of work my friends.

Wow, do ya see all the wool on that sheep? Now look below an see a different kinda sheep....a wire fox terrier sheep....Now that's Fred, my father, and as ya can see he needs a haircut. Why, ya can't even see his eyes, now, can ya?

And this, my friends, is my brother, George, who lives with our Dad, Fred and my big bruver, Scott and his wife Heather. George also needs a haircut. The warm weather seems to have arrived around here and ya can't be walkin' around with all that hair. So Gram and Pap, the grooming table and tools went over to big bruver Scott's house to see what they could do with Fred and George.

It took an entire afternoon but after the floor was filled with hair and Fred and George were sick of bein' on that grooming table, the finished product was unveiled. Now this was a quickie job, so it is not Grooming Salon worthy, but ya can see the improvement. First Fred.......

Then George. Now George in particular looks like he lost 10 pounds but then he isn't as stocky as I am anyway. He takes after my Mom...kinda delicate except when there is vermin involved or a mud puddle. But I digress.......

Oh Yeah, now at the same house lives the little hooman baby person, Parker....ya know the one that smells funny, makes funny noises and cries a lot...... Well there he is bein' carried around papoose style and would ya look at the funny bone he's a chewin' on!!!!! Why, what is he thinkin'? I bet it doesn't even taste good cause it looks like it is plastic or sumpin' Ya wanna chew on sumpin', chew on a good hard bone....Hrumph, we have a lot to teach this little hooman baby person. I hope Fred and George are up to the task. Well, after all that work, this family is pretty tired and so we bid ya a good night and hope ya all have a wonderful weekend.......

Dewey Dewster reportin'.........let's get this to press........
